First, he is chosen as the most overrated player in the league in a poll by his fellow MLS players. Second, he loses his position in the starting XI at NYCFC. Third, he is left off the Copa America USMNT by Klinsmann.

Now, there are rumors flying that his days are essentially numbered in NYC as he has not made NYCFC's 18-man roster for over a month now. He is no longer even a sub on the bench at this point. Mix's last appearance was in a US Open match against the NY Cosmos, an inept loss for NYCFC in which afterwards Vieira openly criticized the play and effort of his squad. Poku, another starter in that match, found himself discarded by Vieira just two weeks later.

At this point, because he is no longer present on match day, Mix has to impress enough in practice to warrant a spot on the bench. From there, he has to impress as a sub. However, most NYCFC supporters feel that he is dead and buried by Vieira. If so, I wonder where he will end up next.

Sidenote: I wonder if there is a chance that Poku will find his way to Atlanta United FC. Apparently he lived in the city and played for the old club the Silverbacks.

Somewhere I read he is owed about $750K and that could be a hindrance in moving him. NYC probably would want someone to eat a large chunk of that.

Yeah, prime example of a guy who got his MLS money and rested on his laurels.

If you've seen him in the last year, since he scored vs. Germany, he's been really bad. His touch is just gone.

I believe that is correct. He is the fourth highest paid player on NYCFC's roster, behind Villa, Lampard, and Pirlo. Mix is making more money than Sacha Kljestan, Dom Dwyer, Benny Feilhaber, Graham Zusi, Ignacio Piatti.

It's amazing that Poku isn't in MLS right now.

I agree that he has regressed. Hopefully, it is temporary and he can regain his form as he is only 25.

I believe an important distinction needs to be noted regarding all of this. Some people will mention a player coming to MLS and regressing in form. That is correct in this case, but not all cases, and that regression is on the player not the league. The fact that MLS players chose Mix as the most overrated player displays how they are not impressed with his level of play.

This is a case where a player makes a name for himself in the Tippeligaen, makes a play here and there for the USMNT, gains some notoriety, cashes in a decent salary (its not like he is making super bank, he makes $750k), and assumes that he has made it. Meanwhile, his fellow MLS players feel that he is nothing special and he gets passed by other players on his squad like Tommy McNamara and Jack Harrison.

MLS is a tough league. It is tougher than the Tippeligaen. It is not a place where you can rest on your laurels and assume that you have made it. This is a pivotal moment for Mix and hopefully he can step it up. Otherwise, he could be Brek Shea.

Four years ago at my five year reunion, someone bumped into me and I spilled most of my drink on Andrew Wenger. We ended up talking for a while and he told me that Mix was super overrated and one of the worst guys on the Olympic team in practice.

Wenger looked really wrong for a while, especially as his MLS career fizzled, but not so much now.

Poku would be a great signing for Atlanta United FC. Regarding Mix, I think a great place for him to land could be Seattle. The Sounders are crying out for a creative CAM. Moreover, he could link up with Dempsey and Morris on the pitch and the training ground. Perhaps a change of scenery could give him a boost as well. I am afraid that his confidence has been worn down by the events of this year.

He is indeed a damn good footballer and a joy to watch. Piatti has been more important than Drogba to Montreal this year.

He's had a good bounceback year in Houston so far. One of the very few bright spots.
