How are our Arsenal fans feeling about Giroud right now?

he's been pretty boss this tournament, after there were some questions about his quality coming in, esp since the normal starter is banished from the national team for being a complete cocksucker

he was absolutely amazing yesterday. that first goal was clinical and his play on the AG goal was magisterial

so is he solidifying his place for the Gunners? how do y'all feel about that?

more importantly, is Wenger learning anything?

He is doing exactly what he has been doing for Arsenal. Providing very good hold up play and scoring goals. Giroud is often used as a scapegoat by fans but he has been a very good player for Wenger.

I'd rather buy a proven international quality center back than over pay for a striker.

teaming him up with a speedy forward up top seems to be golden

don't know how that works with arsene's system or their players, esp with ozil staying up top so much

Back towards goal I don't know if there is a better striker in the game. Like his literal post-up game receiving passes with a CB draped on him is surreal. Some of his little flicks and passes (as evidenced by that AG7 goal yesterday) are fantastic. He really excels with a partner near him, not someone like Ozil who needs to play the ball into space, but someone to play right off of him.

He will be what he always will be. A fantastic target striker who will fluff lots of good chances, chances which were occasionally made by his good play to begin with. He doesn't suit Ozil though, nor is he the super striker Arsenal needs.

Ozil drifts around a bunch, so he's rarely within 5 yards of Giroud, which is what Giroud needs. AG7 pairs really well with Giroud because he's playing as a second striker.

In terms of Arsenal's options, Alexis and Giroud haven't combined very much. Walcott and Giroud were a good pairing before Walcott got injured. Welbeck and Giroud combine really well.

Giroud's basic problem is his finishing. He makes excellent runs, he links play extremely well, he can hold off two CBs at once, and he's decent enough in the air, especially from goal kicks, where he can usually win and control the ball while sustaining pressure from a CB. He's also slow as shite, and isn't a great athlete, which I think explains a lot of his shite finishing, as he has trouble adjusting to balls that aren't perfect.

Basically Walcott and Welbeck are the two best strikers suited for them. Walcott is out of form, and Welbeck is injured, but those players create space for Ozil in a big way. There isn't a player on the market that really has what we need. We basically need Thierry Henry again, a player who can create their own goal, play with their back toward goal, and link play. There isn't even an Adebayor-lite in this market at the moment.

God that would be a dream. Or Bale getting put up for sale. Or Suarez.

auba really does remind me of henry with his speed and killer instinct finishing

*ETA: also started out as a winger and moved inside then blew up

*ETA: and he is from France

Giroud is pretty good. Most of this board has their submit finger ready every single time he has a header go off target. It's really weird.

It is more the consistency of his finishing. He'll go 10 straight games banging in goals then 10 straight without one.

Giroud needs a true number 9 to play off of. Griezzman is playing like that for France. Arsenal are a true 9 away from being really damn good. Until then they'll just be good

eta: they need Benzema

He is, but it's pretty easy to understand how the trigger fingers are poised to post the shite talking. For as world class as his hold up play is, his finishing can be comically bad. I think he gets way more flack than he deserves, but he makes it too easy for the trolls.

I mean, do you watch the guy play? He can be brilliant at times, and then leave you completely aghast at others.

I don't think you know what a No. 9 is.

Giroud is an amazing optimum 9 for English punters.

Warts and all.

ETA I think they thought Andy Carroll (was that his name?) would convert into a Giroud. Obviously, he would have been classified God´s gift to football and up there with Messi and CRon, LOL.
