Alright, the opening transfer window closed and it's time to provide my Year 3 update.

Completed Season:
Season 2 ended with me winning League 1 by 10 points. Bradford City, Portsmouth, and Notts County will be moving into the Championship. I got knocked out really early in the Capitol One Cup to Liverpool, where I lost on penalties. I made it all the way to the FA Cup Final where I lost to Manchester United 3-2 (Rooney scored in the 116' and 120' to seal it). I beat Hull 2-1 (on replay), Everton 6-0 (they put out a 2nd team and got a red card early), and Chelsea 2-1 on the way to the final. It was a pretty season that finally got me to change the difficulty from Professional to World Class. I'm generally just not very good at the game, so it's gotten very tough. I don't believe I can dribble the ball anymore in the midfield. I get muscled off the ball very easily or tackled from behind regardless of the pace of the player. So, it's a ton of one touch passes.

Stats:
Maxwel Cornet finished with 31 goals in League One and 8 assists. Emerson Hyndman finished with 16 goals and 14 assists. Alexandr Zuev finished with 4 goals and 10 assists.

Current Season:
Now in the Championship, I no longer have any advantages in roster, or talent, so it's not been an easy going. I've won 3 and drew 5 matches. I don't think I'll get promoted this year, but I hope to do well enough to get around $4-5 million transfer budget.

Due to my performance in FA Cup, I qualified for Europa and my group is Roma, Bursaspor, and BSC Young Boys. I've only played Roma at Roma, and drew 1-1. I consider that a major win considering the vast gap in wages. I just hope to get past group stage and increase my transfer budget. Does anyone know how much the Europa League gives in wages?

Transfer Window:
As I mentioned in my previous update, I signed Jon Taylor from Petersborough on free transfer. I only had 2.6 million to play with, so I was very limited in possible moves. I brought in Matt Miazga from New York RB for $2.8 million (defense has been my biggest problem), and bought Wylan Cyprien from RC Lens for $500k(!). He's playing the role of a holding midfielder for me behind Hyndman and next to Russell Teibert. Last full transfer I made was for Dillon Serna for $1.3 million. He's listed a winger in the game (despite being a DM/RB in real life) and I'm playing him at any of the 3 midfield positions on the wing. Still trying to figure how he best fits in the squad. I brought in Bradford Jamieson IV from LA Galaxy on a 1 year loan. He's only making 6k/week in wages with a $1.4 million buyout. I also agreed to Kingley Coman for a 1 yr loan+1.4 mil buyout, but his wages were much higher and so I was able to afford Jamieson.
I loaned several youth players away and my most promising is a 17 year old LW already at 72. He's currently at Brighton. I loaned him and Adam Campbell out so I could afford the wages required.

In the next transfer window, I also have to decide who to keep/come up with the money to pay for Ben Swanson, Patrick Mullins, and Romain Gall as their loans will be up. I would like to keep all 3, but I don't think it'll be possible unless the board is nice to me.

Agreed! I'm
Playing manager mode with Bayer 04...Hernandez is fun to play with and I added altidore. Gives me a good 1/2 punch

Do you actually play every game each season? Or do you find yourself simming some of the matches?

Only occasionally. If I'm resting my star players, I put in my 2nd team and sim it.

For the first two seasons, I had a 10+ point lead on FL1 and FL2 by like Feburary. I would generally sim every other league match around that point. I'd estimate I play about 75-80% of the matches. I'll likely play about 95% of them this year as I'm 5th right now (Beginning of December)

Sounds like you approach it sort of opposite of me. I usually sim unless I get 6 points or more behind in the table.

I find that simming usually results in players getting injured. I've had 3 major injuries this season, all 3 from simulated games.

Yeah, that was definitely an issue...that or players getting cards pretty frequently in my experience.

I agree, I love playing Bundesliga matches. When I'm on my downtime here at my deployed location in the Middle East, I go to the USO gaming tent and alternate nights playing an EPL or Bundesliga match. I am surprised that EA never recycled all of the stadiums from the 2006 World Cup game for the Bundesliga at least for 360 and PS3. Off the top of my head Frankfurt, Stuttgart, and Kaiserslautern are missing.

When I get the game I spend time changing stadiums and stadium names for the MLS, Bundesliga, and National Teams to get close to what they really have as home stadiums. If you see Russia's home stadium, (Stadion Olympik) it's almost exactly Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow which is where the 2018 WC Final Game will be played.

Do they still have Hamburg's stadium on there? I know it's not called the Imtech Arena anymore. I just haven't played much with the Bundesliga this year.

I held off on buying this when it came out bc of some mixed reviews/people talking about how frustrating it was. Has there been a patch to address this or after a few months has it grown on people?

It still has frustrations, and I get pissed every now and then, but I either enjoy it or I'm a masochist because I keep picking up the controller and playing it.

I use some custom sliders and have begun playing on Legendary difficulty and my biggest complaint is my players have loads of trouble intercepting/going to loose balls on their own. That's the most frustrating part; they'll watch is bounce right by them, back out of the way, etc. It's very odd, but other than that, it feels good.

I can't run around like a crazed chicken and win the ball back easily, I have to maintain positional discipline, switching players frequently and quickly to keep shape. If I mess up, the computer will exploit bad positioning or a bad attempt to tackle ball. The computer will hold possession for a good while at times and really move it around, but conversely I can maintain possession for minutes on end, playing it around the box, probing for the right opportunity. It's never too easy, but it's not overly difficult. It feels really really good to score, like I've had to work it just right or take advantage of a computer mistake.

There are also games where it feels like a ping pong game, really wide open, with lots of chances. When I play a crappy team, they seem more conservative and I have to possess it more and find the pockets of space and make good passes. Better teams attack more, which leads to counterattacks for me and more chances.

I like it, but it isn't for everyone. If you enjoy playing games where you might not win every game, where you might have bad touches or unfortunate things go against you, but you'll sometimes be the benefactor of the same events, then you'll enjoy it.

I hate this shite. Same thing in 15. The goalies are also retarded at times and will let it go out for a corner kick when it's easy to take.

You can train your players this year with minigames (or just simulation), which I really enjoy. Gives you different ways to build your club without just letting it fall to the randomness of CPU-generated potential.

Preseason tournaments are now a thing, with unlimited subs for friendlies.

They attempted to revamp the transfer system (two-year loans are new), but you still see waaaaaaaaaay too many ridiculous transfers and not enough standard ones. Transfer budgets and prize payouts are improved.

I believe they fixed some issues with youth teams and scouting.

I'm in my third season and Neymar has moved to PSG and just moved to Manchester United .

ETA: I said frick it and just bought Yedlin. Looks okay in that Manchester City blue.

He's like the third oldest player on my team though now

All of this is correct. I'm currently seeing a lot less stupid transfer. I had 3 really bad ones in season 1, but in every transfer window since, it's been good.

The prize payouts are the only thing keeping Notts County competitive.
