And the Gold Cup is meaningless.

Also meaningless:

Euro 2016
Africa Cup of Nations
Copa America
Whatever the frick they do in Asia

Seriously, where did this "meaningless Gold Cup" talking point come from? This Gold Cup had a very real prize attached to it. There'd be no hand wringing over the Rose Bowl if we would have handled our business.

Because it's not as important as friendlies against Germany and the Netherlands.

And people in the US seem to downplay CONCACAF as a whole.

You'd have to rework all of CONCACAF's smaller tournaments as well, which could hurt the development of the Central American and Caribbean nations. That, in turn, would hurt the level of CONCACAF as a whole.

Wouldn't this cut down on the amount of competitive international matches we have and therefore further hurt our world rankings?

Why are people angry at CONCACAF? They should be angry at all the Americans who aren't buying tickets to support the USMNT.

I was just coming to say this. Americans need to man up and support the team. Its ridiculous that yall are actually complaining about this.

They could also play in COPA America and have the Gold Cup on all the odd-numbered years COPA America doesn't take place. So here's what the schedule would look like.

2017- Gold Cup
2018- World Cup
2019- COPA America
2020- N/A
2021- Gold Cup
2022- World Cup
2023- COPA America

You understand that this isn't up to CONCACAF, right?

I thought the CONMEBOL wanted the U.S. to participate in COPA America. They kept inviting us we kept turning them down because the timing of the tournament conflicted with the MLS schedule. Than when we finally accepted, we sent our B team to the tournament and that pissed off the South Americans. If we promise to send our A team, I bet they would be more than willing to let us participate.

CONMEBOL invites one or two countries every tournament. It's not a "you're invited, now you're in for life" thing.

Another note: Copa America only recently switched to an every four years model and they may be switching back in the near future.

there is going to be some decisions to be made

The CONCACAF Olympic qualifying tournament (an Under-23 event) will be taking place at the same time, with the region’s two automatic Rio 2016 berths on the line on October 10, one day after the Confed Cup playoff.

The U.S. men surprisingly failed to qualify for the 2012 Olympics, and U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann has said he puts a big priority on qualifying for the tournament to give his younger players the chance to compete in an international tournament with pressure on them.

That means a couple of things for October: 1) Klinsmann will have to decide if John Brooks, DeAndre Yedlin and Jordan Morris—Under-23 players who could help the senior team against Mexico—should be with the seniors or at Olympic qualifying. 2) Klinsmann will be training and coaching the senior team without the help of his right-hand man, Andi Herzog, who is the Under-23 head coach.

Jordan Morris isn't good enough for the senior team. And, IMO, neither is Brooks.

Right now Brooks should be our 4th choice CB behind Besler, Gonzo and Cameron IMO

There is no where in the US we will out number them

I went to the WC qualifier in Columbus against Mexico and there very very few Mexican fans. At most of the soccer specific MLS stadiums we can out number them depending on how the tickets are sold.
