Was it the poor tactics or the extreme thuggery that got him canned after just 4 months & 1 major CONCACAF tournament?

Obviously we've had trouble filling our coach role, but who in the hell would want Mexico's job at this point

Reading reddit threads on the fan reaction to the game was illuminating.

Apparently the Mexican FA only cares about 2 things: (1) making money for the FA administration and (2) promoting Liga MX (which helps with #1). They don't want European-based players on the squad and want to promote domestic players.

They fully admitted the US was tiers above hem now and Canada may be permanently.

I can't really comment on whether Cocca is a good coach or not but Mexico's problems are far deeper than anything a coach can fix. They don't send players to Europe and the lack of talent was shocking to see. Their federation doesn't care about getting better, just about keeping the national team players in LigaMX and marketing them.

We had no trouble filling the position. We hired exactly who we wanted to. I doubt we interviewed more than two other candidates.

The Mexican FA is what QSMNT Twitter thinks the USSF is like

ETA: I see this upset some QSMNT peeps

Which is why he wasn't fired after the USMNT loss, because there were 65,000 fans in the stadium. He was fired after the Panama win when there were only 4,000 fans in stands.

frick with the money and the FMF will frick you up.

As long as the MLS continues to loan/sell players to Europe, Mexico will struggle against the US and probably Canada.

I was going to say it mirrors us somewhat, but amplified

I think the Liga MX stuff is legit and not just sour grapes

It will keep getting parroted regardless. I wish USSF would just come out and say who they approached and what the response was.

Has any sporting program ever gone through more head coaches than the Mexican National team in a time period?

Transparency would be awesome, but they obviously can't come out and say "Hey guys, Gregg was our 8th choice after Luis Enrique and others laughed at us and Patrick Viera turned us down. But lets get behind Gregg and go win our World Cup!"

My bad According to Charlie Stillitano of 'The Football Show' we interviewed four. Marsch, GGG, Vieira and Henry.

Those were the only ones who took an interview... and they only circled back to Gregg after they didn't like Marsch and Henry, and Viera turned them down.
