We have the talent to win the league but this team just doesn't click. Spacing is atrocious, we look like assholes trying to defend and pass it out of the back, our attacking play is static and we don't break teams down... top four, out in CL round of 16, rinse and repeat.

Seriously, Atkinson?

"No, move the ball back. No, further. Further. Further! Ok, that's good.

Cech kicks it to Ozil...

And whistle to end the game.

I mean, WTF was the point in that. frick him.

What a shite week...lose twice and draw Bayern..same shite, different year..I didn't watch the 2nd half, but was hoping they'd manage to keep them scoreless...I wasn't surprised to see them frick up the 2nd half

This team can't win these big games..Cheslea is the only win..loss to Liverpool and city, draw to united and the spurs...if they want to win the league they have got to get 3 pts against their competition..I have zero confidence they can pull it off

*sigh* I love Wenger & I'm not on the Wenger out brigade (especially since I think Alexis & Özil depend on keeping him) but this is sad.
Another bad result.
If there's one positive it was an away match against a top 4 team, so it was one of those "toss up" games to start the year but this still sucks regardless.
And also, what happened with Ox? I wasn't at home so couldn't watch the game but saw he got subbed off after being a sub.
Did he just suck? Or is he injured? That sounds like typical Arsenal to lose another player to injury

Welp, it's that annual time for Arsenal fans to start worrying.

It's not even THAT we lost, but how--back to the pattern of going up early, Arsene trying to sit on a lead, then collapsing late.

We are capable of and need to run the table on these weakies we have coming up until Chelsea on February 4.

But yeah Cwil, you beat me to it. It sure looks like another being happy with finishing top four and getting knocked out of CL in the round of 16.

Rinse and repeat.

Mustafi injury came at the worst time. Ozil did nothing in this game. Where is Lucas?? Why not holding over Gabriel at this point? Need santi back badly but very worrying that that is even the case

Yep, the numbers tell the story.

I thought he was in witness protection today.

I'm fully on the side of Alexis if we had to pick between the two. Ozil frustrates me to no end on nights like this. When it was 1-1 I said, okay, we have Alexis and Ozil, they will make something happen. And Ozil was just invisible. He also pigeonholes us into 4-2-3-1/4-4-1-1 whereas Alexis can play in any attacking position.

Hopefully Ozil takes this as a wake up call. I've kept my hopes very moderate all year, as I'm convinced we can't win a title with Wenger anymore. I'm not Wenger Out or anything but I think the modern game demands hands on tactical instruction and he's not willing to do that.

But it's still a damn shame to watch this team repeat itself every year.

Spoke to soon. Chelsea runs away with it, Sanchez will leave at end of season.

Ozil sucked, look like hes hungover or something.

Don't have defensive leaders. You had this game then get run the frick over in the 2nd. Yeah the first goal was offside, but Arsenal deserved to lose.

I'm with you on taking Alexis over Ozil if we had to pick between them.
As you said Alexis can play anywhere on the front line, but Ozil has to play in one spot (that he's not always effective in anyways) in order to get on the field.
So given the scenario, we have plenty of other options that could take Mesut's place and excel there, but no one the likes of Alexis' quality. Really hope we can get these contract problems fixed soon

I'm a huge Ozil fan but his last two performances are inexcusable. That said it was his 4th game in 12 days. He was visibly fatigued for the last two matches. If we're down a goal and a player isn't putting in the effort then sub him out. That's on Wenger. Not rotating for Everton was another huge mistake. We go up a goal both games looking good for most of the first half then proceed to let off the gas and try to soak up pressure. Firstly we aren't the type of team to soak up pressure defensively. Secondly we were poised to kill off City and Everton but instead we don't attack, which is what we are good at. Teams have been killing City with the high press yet we just sat off and let them find a rhythm. The last two matches have exposed Wenger's tactical inability.

Ozil is going to want ridiculous money and I don't think he deserves it. Win something then we can talk about paying players 300k+ a week.

Also thought this team turned the corner defensively, but this is from Arseblog and it doesn't look good.

quote:

Defensively, Arsenal have already allowed almost as many Big Chances* this season (27) as they did in all 38 games last season (35). Arsenal are also saving those Big Chances at a lower rate and the opposition have already scored 13 goals from Big Chance opportunities, which was the same number Arsenal conceded all of last season.

Pulled hamstring with only 12 minutes. Announcers were blaming it on him not starting and coming in cold.

I guess because of his power it could happen going to hard too soon. But players all over the world come off the bench and don't pull hamstrings.

Yeah I thought we had been doing okay defensively, but I just saw a stat that said we've lost the 4 games Mustafi hasn't played in (Liverpool, City, Everton & Southampton). We really need him back

Mustafi has been great, for sure, but I'm not even sure he could have saved Arsenal from that terrible second half.

Arsenal's biggest problem against Manchester city was Arsène Wenger

The article I posted echoes this sentiment.

There's also the fact that we haven't kept a clean sheet since October in the league while Chelsea are rolling up 1-0 wins all over the place.

I feel like every single time it looks like Wenger is going to adapt to the circumstances around him, he's like "nahhhhhhhhhhhhhh."

The biggest reason Chelsea have been so successful is that Conte saw major deficiencies and he adapted the system to get the best out of the players. We never thought Pedro or Moses would play big roles in the squad this year, but Conte is utilizing them in a way where they're able to play at a high level.

I feel like Wenger just does what Wenger wants and hopes it works out.
