24 year old who played his way onto the German euro first team.

Shkodran Mustafi: Averaged more tackles and interceptions combined (7.1) than any other player in La Liga last season

We don't really care if you sign for us or not. Hey, it's no big deal. It's not like we desperately lack attacking talent and are facing the very real prospect of going through preseason with Chuba Akpom, Yaya Sanogo, and Gunnersaurus as our main strikers?.

Sounds like a promising player. Seems like a cheap price tag though. Something seems off.

Mustafi can also play RB. We need that kind of positional versatility at the back.

Can you imagine if we got Mustafi, Mahrez, and Lacazette?

It's not going to happen, but it's fun to consider.

Gotcha. Well as desperate as we are we shouldn't mess around and just offer a little on the top so another bidder doesn't swoop in.

Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis says the club can't compete with their Premier League rivals over transfer fees because they "can't afford to make huge mistakes".

"We're run in a self-sustaining way, and a way that we believe in, because we believe it gives us certainty for the future and enables us to plan our future with confidence. That means we can't afford to make huge mistakes in the transfer market. We can't afford to outgun competitors that have far more money to splurge on transfer fees than we do. So we have to be very careful, very selective about how we do things."

As a seasoned Arsenal fan driven to cynicism, I say we get none of them

Plus Gazidis says stupid shite that indicates the mindset of the club is not to buy the best talent to make us truly compete for titles, so there's that flaming bag of shite we also get to deal with.

the arsenal thread is always so consistent b/c the impending doom is always there

the liverpool thread has kind of been beaten down over the past few years and the arrogance has started to fade

the manu thread will always have that arrogance which makes their meltdowns more serious and emotional than the joyous celebration of being bound to fate like what you see in this thread. it's almost a celebration of station when arsenal fans realize they're ending up in 3rd or 4th place

The only celebration last year was finishing ahead of Spurs again

The Chelsea thread last year was rich.

Sky Germany says we've opened up discussions for Mustafi. Would be such a nice signing. Trying not to get my hopes up, but it's July and I'm bored.

Mahrez seems to be solidifying into a little more than vaporous rumors.

Brit press saying he will sign "in a few days" still keeps me from getting excited.

The parallels between LSU and Arsenal are sundry.

I hate my life.

The parallels between Arsenal and the St. Louis Cardinals are striking.

Both revered and strong brand names, among the most hallowed in their sport.

(At least before LaRussa retired)--an all-time great, but stubborn manager determined to do it his way to the frustration of the fans, and a front office that could afford to spend big, but doesn't, which also frustrates the fans, who try to appreciate the prudence and refusal to throw away money on bad contracts/signings, but scream in frustration when their team obviously does nothing while other teams improve themselves.

Chelsea and City will likely be this year's Chicago Cubs, though the Cubs now appear to be human, you have to admire their bold moves to improve themselves.

Arsenal and the Cards will no doubt, be "hanging in there" ... Arsenal with their usual top four finish and the Cards with a wildcard and first or second round exit.

As a passionate fan of both, I appreciate the consistent winning, but believe more could be easily attained.

And of course, they both wear red.
