I just hope Alexis stays on Bellerin's side defensively. The last thing we need is a primarily attacking fb to be paired with Ozil.

This is really embarrassing. Just can't put more than a couple passes together.

I know this is low-hanging fruit, and I know that just having one player wouldn't change everything when the team plays this poorly, but this game appears to point out the gaping hole that's in front of the defense. Someone out there to break up play and shield the back line is crucial in today's game. Arteta isn't that player. Arteta is the player to use against an Aston Villa. He collects errant clearances in front of midfield. He doesn't break up attacking play when playing a team of equal or greater talent who will be in our defensive third for a decent time in the game.

I don't know if it is Arsenal bias, or if it really is an indication of how desperately we need a defensive mid, but I feel like every team has such an easy task of countering on us. As soon as we lose it, there are 4 guys flying at 3-4 Arsenal defenders with no hindrance.

Until Wenger gets his tactics straightened out this is pretty much what I expect from Arsenal. Lackluster in attack for the most part, nothing really threatening or all that creative, and serious issues on defense. The lack of depth, overall quality, and tactics at the back is staggering. The high line with Per, getting caught on the counter all the time, and being down to an inexperienced fullback for an extended period of time has me really not looking forward to some of our matches. Lately we haven't been enjoying to watch.

I don't know which of my teams I am more worried about, Arsenal or the Saints. Both had a lot of promise going into this season.

With the Saints they had everyone truly believing in the Super Bowl hype. Arsenal everyone figured would be up there to compete for Silverware but many still felt City and Chelsea were the better squads. After seeing transfer rumor after rumor get shot down I resigned myself to hoping for one trophy and battling for 3rd/4th again.

Can we please start a petition to get Arteta sold? He's 4 years past his prime an Wenger plays him in the wrong position. It's so frustrating to watch, because he cannot play CDM

I think there's definitely a place in the squad for even an aging Arteta. His style of play fits well against teams where we dominate possession. You are right, however, that he cannot be a starting DCM if Arsenal hope to compete for anything more than the 4th place trophy.

A backup center mid I guess but we have such an influx of cm's and wingers. Wenger needs to make a winter transfer for a star striker and a CDM, and with Debuchy hurt a utility defenseman would be useful as well. This game revealed a lot of holes

we start arteta and per, very good, but limited, players. the things arsene asks of them really frustrates me. this formation has to go.

if we're going to be that open to opposing attacks, we should at least be creating some danger of our own. it's amazing how impotent our attack is with the players at our disposal.

I still don't get this formation. Immobile ran straight for 50 yards and no one could catch him. Per is just too slow, players can get separation with ease, he has to be perfect in his positioning or else he's beat. Need more cover for the back line. We are limiting our attack playing players out of position. Go back to the 4-2-3-1. Play ramsey/jack or Ramsey/arteta in front of the d. Jack on the left, Alexis on rt and ozil sitting behind welbeck. Or you put Santi on the left with the jack/Rambo pivot.

And this

I don't understand why a diamond midfield is not used in this squad. The talent at our disposal appears to be screaming for one. Giroud or Welbeck or even Sanogo to play as the true striker with the second striker being Alexis, Podolski or Theo. The top of the diamond is Santi/Ozil while the center mids/working mids are Wilshere/Ox/Ramsey/Rosicky/Gnabry. The base of your diamond is Arteta/Flamini.

We don't really use wings anyway, and the players on the wing typically don't like being there or don't stay there anyway. It does not solve the DCM problem, but it does protect the back 4 more and appears to play everyone closer to their natural positions. Even Sanogo can cause enough chaos to have a few chances fall to a second striker.

i'm not here to talk shite but

wtf has happened to ozil. he's a non-factor. is it really as simple as he's being asked to play out left? and if it is that simple, why can a bunch of retard grass f@gs on the internet see that but not arsene?

serious questions. i agree that he needs to be played centrally but why can't arsene see that? is he trying to ancelloti these folks into the team or what?

Yes he is. The only good thing about today was Galatasaray and Anderlecht getting a draw. Still 5 matches to play in group. But, that was just pathetic. Congrats to Dortmund for their tactics and Wenger got fricking schooled today.
