AW just said today Chambers is going to be a DM (assumedly long-term). potential for carvalho, but who knows. rambo obviously. possibly diaby. AW has been clear he sees Ox centrally, potentially as a b2b guy. hayden is up and coming DM. zelalem may be ready for 1st team action next season. new signings potentially. we won't be in a position where we *need* to keep jack if he's struggling IMO.

again, i think he will blow up this year and there's no way we're selling him this month. there's maybe a 1% chance we could sell him next season.

damn, I/we am/are desperate for some actual news who do you guys have for the XI sunday?

I think Jack stays here as long as Wenger is here. He's guaranteed 30 games a year here at the very minimum. Next summer we could lose Arteta, Flamini, and Rosicky, leaving only Ramsey and Jack as seasoned midfield options. He'd be mad to leave next year. Anyway, he signed his new contract in Dec. 2012. It was probably a five and a half year contract. We will have him til the summer of 2017. It would be madness if he left with two years remaining on his contract. One year left, I can understand, but two years would be unprecedented.

He'll have plenty of game time this year, and he'll get more time as our older midfielders move on. We will need six midfielders to compete for trophies, and Jack will always get plenty of games.

i really don't disagree with you, other than i think there's a fractional chance all your points are very valid (except for the 2yr unprecedented part: cesc, song, adebayor, henry, vieira, overmars, et al. it has and can happen.)

just think if rambo stays relatively healthy, it's possible that he may struggle to get 30 games this year. AW isn't the best at voluntary rotation and we've got quite a few options in attacking spots, where he featured frequently last season, and is unlikely to pair with rambo for a significant stretch of games IMO. if we don't sign another CM, that might be a possibility though.

for all the reasons you said, it's extremely, extremely unlikely. i just see a possibility there for him to be unsatisfied and try to force his way out.

as for the Community Shield, i actually feel kinda good about it for some reason. will likely have my hopes crushed, but oh well. i'd go:

szcz
debuchy-chambers-kos-gibbo
arteta-flamini
sanchez-rambo-ox
sanogo

or, if arsene is feeling more adventurous he could swap out jack for flamini or santi for flamini and play no 10, or ox at no 10 and santi LW.

I would put Santi or Rosicky in the ten position and move Ramsey to DM.

They all had two years left? God damn. Well each left for a specific reason which wasn't playing time. If Jack were to leave we could basically ask Man City to write us a blank check, since they have such a problem with homegrown players.

I hope we go conservative in this game. I know Wenger is not prone to do that, but we will see. I wouldn't mind Jack being at the no. 10. I would hate to move Ramsey further up the pitch because of how important he is defensively. He looks really good going forward, full of confidence and belief, but we need him to combat the duo of Fernandino and Toure. Arteta will get overrun, and the more we pressure Toure deeper in midfield, the less likely he is to carve through us.

Sanogo starting with Giroud coming off the bench is a sentence I didn't think I would be saying so soon into this season. Sanogo looks crisp, and although he still looks clumsy at times, I'm impressed that he tries to participate in the build-up as much as he does. Yaya reminds me of a teenager who just hit his growth spurt with the way he moves sometimes.

Wings occupied by Sanchez and Ox would be absolutely amazing. So much pace and finally some willing runners for all our smooth passers.

I believe that Arteta-Flamini was the withdrawn partnership when we drew Citeh at the Emirates late in last season. Could see Arsene picking that again, although I hope we really go for it with a lineup like:

Szczesny
Debuchy, Chambers, Koscielny, Gibbs
Arteta, Ramsey
Sanchez, Wilshere, Ox
Sanogo

I think we could have a really wide open game. Remember that Citeh will be without Aguero, Zabaleta and Demichelis as they are like our 3 Germans and still out after playing in the World Cup final. I also read today where Sagna likely won't be playing either, and the Mangala transfer hasn't been completed yet. There is no telling what Citeh have at the back at this stage for this game.

That's why I think I'd like to see us play a little more attacking than maybe we did in that last home game with them. I think the chances should be there.

Arsenal draws Besiktas in the UCL qualifying draw. First match to be played in Istanbul. Would have preferred we draw Standard Liege or Copenhagen maybe with a trip to Everton to follow that weekend, but oh well.

Only 2 players on the entire Besiktas roster that I'm even familiar with. Demba Ba is one, who they bought from Chelsea this summer. The other? JERMAINE JONES! I couldn't tell you anything about another player they have.

Also looks like they have some former Arsenal youth player in their squad who I know nothing about.

Besiktas was the lowest rated team among the 5 we could have drawn, so from that standpoint I guess this was one of the teams we would hope to face. Just wish we would have drawn somebody that wouldn't require as much travel for the first leg.

özyakup. a decent prospect for us, just not quite good enough. never one of our top prospects. an attacking mid. i think he's forged quite a solid career there.

i hate hate hate that draw. i don't care if they were the lowest rated, that'd by far the longest flight in front of a big match v. Everton. we shouldn't have any problem, but that sucks.

also, TV5 to Barca for £15m pounds is brilliant business. now we need to replace him quickly.

some talk among the good journos that if we find a good deal for an offensive player, we might offload poldi this year. i can only imagine that'd be for something like cavani.

Manuel Pelligrini confirmed today that Citeh will be without 8 of their players on Sunday.

Aguero
Zabaleta
Demichelis
Kompany
Fernandinho
Sagna
Lampard
Negredo (Injured)

An opportunity to get a decent result to start the year, for sure.

updated part 2 of the OP...looks like up until now, our net spending is pretty much what the sanchez fee was. sales and contract clause buyouts netted us around 30m which covers the debuchy, ospina and chambers fees. we've still got a bit of powder to play with.

though, apparently our wage bill is increasing by 30m this season. seems high but we have been handing out a lot of extensions lately.

their issue will be at CB (as will ours with Chambers). they actually will have a quite strong, if not first choice, XI out there with nasri, navas, dzeko, jovetic, silva, yaya, fernando, kolarov, clichy, et al.

Exactly. They'll have to start 2 of Nastatic/Boyata/Rekik as CBs. The pairings were fine in the ICC when they had Kolorav/Clichy as the fullbacks to help cover though. Still Boyata is good for 1 or 2 PKs a game.

Should be some goals scored.

crazy, saw a tidbit you might like: apparently zelalem was training with the back four for a bit, sitting in front of them as they worked on defensive shape.

A very interesting move. Zelalem has played pretty well so far this preseason. The Busquets role is where I see him breaking through, but he's actually a very natural no. 10. He had a turn the other day that was straight out of Rosicky's handbook.
