Gigi's wiki says he was purchased for €53 mil in 2001. Benfica have announced Ederson was transferred for €40 mil. I don't see pounds mentioned in either tranfer sagas.

But yeah, Buffon going for that much back then is insane.

I guess United supporters can only diddle their thumbs and convert currencies to try and make City look mad since they sure as hell have no signings of their own to concentrate on.

No better than picking the most popular club in the entire league and trying to sound unique in doing so.

This could end up an insane transfer market where in 3 years we're looking around at some of the amount spent on some of these guys and wondering what the hell happened.

Meh, there are only 4 or 5 keepers in the world that can command a similar price tag based on a combination of their skill and age. City just overpaid for a keeper, simple as that, it's not going to "change the market for keepers" unless you're a club that's after De Gea, Donurrama, Ter Stegen, or Oblak. Those guys have age and skill on their side.

It's not like Jack Butland is going to command a 40£ fee for a transfer to Everton because city blew their wad

They can absolutely frick the market on outfield players though, and seem determined to do so. I wish we had a sugar daddy, not even gonna lie

Those guys were all in the 35 to 45 million range, well now since this transfer their price will sky rocket. Bc their clubs will be like if this lad went to 35 million surely our guy will demand much more.

now watch it happen.

They have been doing that for a while. All clubs are guilty of it but they have done it on a much larger scale since 2008.
