Also... my wife is a great teacher with a master's degree in education... how does she get one of those consultant jobs? =)
That billing rate unfortunately goes to pay overhead and partners, the actual consultants take home a fraction of that.

Of course... but 1) whatever the fraction is probably exceeds the salary of a teacher, and 2) she can work her way up to partner!

Soon afterward, in November, 2012, the Newark Teachers Union agreed to a new contract that, for the first time, awarded raises only to teachers rated effective or better under the district’s rigorous new evaluation system. Those who got the top rating would receive merit bonuses of between five thousand and twelve thousand five hundred dollars.
Isn't that the sort of thing conservatives agree with ?

If she's a public school teacher, she'll have to give up her tenure, pension plan, and job security.
If she teaches private school she'll have to give up a pretty good job. I remember a teacher from my high school who left to do private sector work for more money, and from what I hear - he really regretted it.

quote:In addition to my point above about Chis Christie's interference, you may want to note that the Newark education budget is likely well north of $500 million and many of their schools are well overdue for replacement, some being reconditioned factories or 100 year old buildings. The total need for new buildings likely totals over $1 billion.
