Super. Let's not address a company that makes a product so easily modified that a 12 year old can do it.

Btw, it is an orange cap, not a red ring.

And a product completely legal for a minor to buy on their own.

What a stupid fricking statement. If your home was being broken into You would be crying like a little bitch to 911.

There are many people upset about the cops' ability to use lethal force when other alternative methods may have sufficed. Unfortunately these issues have been sidestepped because they are being overshadowed by a perceived racial issue. Therefore the "abuse of power" or "militarization of the police" issues are no longer being focused on. It inevitably is dividing people.

I'm of the belief that I don't see how any white police officer in this day and age could draw down on a black person without thinking about the consequences of how that could look in the court of public opinion. It's sad because I think it could and possibly even has already gotten an officer hurt because they had to hesitate. At the same time I recognize that regardless some officers have been shown to have a jumpy trigger finger. Thus I think pistols need to be a last resort in most cases. Not the first level of deterrence.

First it had no identifying marks, and now you not only know that it has an identifying mark but you know specifically what that mark is. Which is it?

What does this have to do with cops being dumb?

The cops don't stop break ins or attacks. They write reports once they're over. Fact.

Surveillance video shows a Cleveland police officer shot 12-year-old Tamir Rice no more than two seconds after the officer and a partner pulled up in a car to investigate reports that someone was brandishing a gun at a park, police said Wednesday.

One of the officers, yelling out the car window, told Rice three times to "show your hands" before Rice was shot, Deputy Chief Ed Tomba of the Cleveland Division of Police told reporters. The surveillance video contained no audio.

Yea it was obvious by your "respect" line that either you were a cop or a family member of one. Its okay man, cops aren't usually the brightest crayons in the box. Doesn't mean your grandfather couldn't have been an exception to the rule.

If I'm not mistaken, air soft guns explicitly say that they are not on a toy on the packaging. Also, if I recall they even mention parental supervision. LINK

But no, let's blame the manufacturer.

Cops generally are dumb. I know some police jurisdictions in larger cities require a 4 year degree, but where I'm from in MS, and to my knowledge all of LA, all that is required is a high school diploma. I had more education than most police by the time i was 21, and knew more about the law than a police officer would ever know by the time I was 24. Another thing is that an officer does not get respect from me unless he gives me respect. In most cases officers are responsible for the adversarial nature of the interaction.

Its always someone or something else thats to blame, never the parents. Never the person "grabbing" at the "toy".
You know what would have prevented this? PUTTING YOUR HANDS IN PLAIN SIGHT WHEN ORDERED TO.
I don't care if you think cops are stupid (they are) or if they have too much power (they do) but nothing changes the fact that obeying a lawful order is the only reasonable thing to do.
Its awful that people are losing their lives but jesus christ its partly - mostly - their own fault.

you're right. if you would have been around people that have been screaming "frick the police" ever since the day your dad bitch slapped your mom and left, you would not put your hands up either.

Go stand in front of a total stranger and let them pull a gun on you. I'm guessing at best you'll have about 2-3 seconds tops to decide if that gun is real or not. Let's see how you'd handle the situation.

This rookie officer jumped out of a still moving patrol car and gunned the kid down in seconds.

Speaking of that scenario ...

quote:

Again, if you want to blame someone, blame the parents.

The police response aside, the parents certainly weren't role models for this kid. Mother convicted of drug trafficking and had a prior arrest for assault. Father has at least three arrests for domestic assault, two of them against the mother. The mother was also beaten by a live-in boyfriend along the way. Circumstances of this shooting aside, this kid would have likely been better off being homeless and taken in by the state. He may have found a mentor somewhere along the way and had a real chance at a decent life.
