Had a kid buy an M3 after one of our deployments. He actually accounted for the insurance. Nice car, but he literally couldn't afford gas to drive it anywhere.
Well I bought an Ensign-mobile after my first deployment (just a regular 3-series but pretty tricked out). Spent about $38500 on it after taxes and USAA gave me the 25 and over insurance rate for being an officer (I think the premium was about $480 every six months, which wasn't bad for something rated as a sports car)

Still driving it almost 10 years later.

My 31yo brother just did this. Sometimes it seems the only thing he gained from the army was mental issues and a cuddle buddy (him and his best friend got caught spooning each other by their co).
Da' frick?

We talking blue on blue? And yeah. I've met some super sharp guys in all branches, but the Army seems to have more than its fair share of knuckleheads.

I came in driving a 1995 Integra. Drove that until 2007, then treated myself to a 2002 Trailblazer.

I've made up for it several times since, though.

His buddy is just a big ole' bear and was their driver while my brother sat gunner. They're kinda gay, but not like really gay.

I've seriously considered upgrading twice. Most recently just a couple of weeks ago. Took it in to the dealer for routine service (bout two hours worth) and they tossed me the keys to a 4-series coupe and told me to try it on for a few days.

I almost broke down and went with a lease, but I talked myself out of it in the end. Thing is my baby still drives fine. Costs me about $800-$1200 a year to keep it that way out of warranty, but I'm never getting rid of it. I think I've driven that car in about 14 countries and three continents. Still have my various inspection stickers on the windshield from Germany, the EU, and Bahrain. So, it's sentimental. Even when I get something new I'll still be wasting money on it.

I did. Figured you'd drive a Daewoo (Chevy) Matiz.

I've been told there are so many exceptions as to make it barely enforceable. Apparently the CO in Weisbaden does not support the dare-care center.

I honestly had not noticed that there was a hiring freeze. I guess the positions in question weren't important.
