WP: Trump to announce "Arab NATO," massive arms deal to Saudis

When President Trump arrives in Riyadh this week, he will lay out his vision for a new regional security architecture White House officials call an “Arab NATO,” to guide the fight against terrorism and push back against Iran. As a cornerstone of the plan, Trump will also announce one of the largest arms-sales deals in history.
Behind the scenes, the Trump administration and Saudi Arabia have been conducting extensive negotiations, led by White House senior adviser Jared Kushner and Saudi Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The discussions began shortly after the presidential election, when Mohammed, known in Washington as “MBS,” sent a delegation to meet with Kushner and other Trump officials at Trump Tower.
After years of disillusionment with the Obama administration, the Saudi leadership was eager to do business. “They were willing to make a bet on Trump and on America,” a senior White House official said.
...
The most concrete part of the idea is a mammoth U.S. arms package for Saudi Arabia that Trump will also announce in Riyadh. Final details are still being worked out, but officials said the package will include between $98 billion and $128 billion in arms sales. Over 10 years, total sales could reach $350 billion.
The sales include huge upgrades for the Saudi army and navy to include Littoral Combat Ships, THAAD missile defense systems, armored personnel carriers, missiles, bombs and munitions, officials said. Some of the production and assembly could be located in Saudi Arabia, boosting MBS’s project to build a Saudi domestic defense industrial capability. But most of the items would be built by American defense contractors.

Libs will say this is bad no matter what, in 3,2,1...

i think the power that Saudi Arabia and Israel have over our federal government is proof that the secret elite is very unlikely to exist

Hey retard, why don't you do a little research and see how much MORE in weapons the Saudis received AFTER they "donated" $25M to the cackling hag.
It's not hard to find. Challenge yourself to a little intellectual honesty.

I dont want THAAD in anyones hands but ours

Nah this is a great idea. The problem has always been that we aren't in bed with Saudi Arabia enough. Plus expanding the military-industrial complex will prime the pump. These are shovel-ready jobs (especially if they include V-22s)!

Mistake, this is one of the moves I disagree with him on. Then again I believe the house of Saudi should be destroyed. The only issue is that leaves another power vacuum in the shite hole

Yep. Hard to figure the Dems and their Mideast mantra. They want to defeat ISIS, I assume, yet they want no American troops over there, they don't want us selling arms to any of those countries trying to defend themselves and they don't want us giving them any money for military support of those countries.
Sounds like an open door policy to ISIS to me.

There's no way this will end badly. What an awful policy decision if true. We need to wash our hands of the House of Saud, badly.

So Trump is empowering China to deal with North Korea and the Middle East to deal with Iran. I know the libs are going to melt regardless, but this fits his America first narrative. You don't need to be a Ron Paul isolationist...let the surrounding countries deal with threats for you.

Saudi Arabia gets to blow up more of Yemen now.

We need to get out of the middle east

That's the problem over there. We should have never started fricking with the dictators who killed the terrorists for us just because we didn't like how they were doing it.
We can't afford another leaderless country in the ME. It's the devil you know over there.
Posted on 5/17/17 at 7:40 am to saints5021
All of that can be done effectively without directly arming and subsidizing their entire military

It's such a fricked up accident of history that we're backing the Saudis and enemies with the Iranians when virtually all exisiting evidence suggests the Iranians are a far better potential partner for long-term peace and stability in the region (hell, if you want to go very long-term, the Persians will still be a major regional player when the oil's gone just like they have been for millenia, the Saudis will go back to running Mecca as the religious equivalent of a tourist trap).

I thought this guy was elected to decrease our involvement in the ME? Now we're working massive arms deals?

So what you're saying is we should check and see if a Trump Tower Riyadh was recently approved?

We've been servants of the Saudis and Israelis long before Trump. Somehow POTUS is getting sucked into the establishment belief that either of the above countries support our interests or world peace.
