That's interesting. In what way? I always knew LDS was obviously a huge thing there, but I've never heard it described how you did.

I had a girlfriend in Scottsdale for a while and she told me the same thing about that area as far as the LDS was concerned...

I love my neighborhood and I love living in New Orleans. I reverse commute to work and I only have an issue if I catch a train at Oak Street.

I can walk in under two minutes to following: 3 bank branches, 2 bakeries, a wine shop, grocery store, 4 restaurants, a cheese shop, a local ice cream parlor, a yogurt store, a veterinarian, a 24 hour CVS, 2 places to get a hair cut, 2 mani/pedi places, a yoga studio, a dry cleaners and a neighborhood bar. My vehicle doesn't move on some weekends.

That is true city living and I love it.

Nice place to visit for a weekend. Best thing in my life was wife finally deciding to sell a home in Uptown she inherited. Water bill monthly like there were two Olympic sized pools planted somewhere in the property. I was there probably 2 nights a week while fixing up the place. No one else.

The PT board is full of people who hate NOLA who have never lived in NOLA.

Two of the biggest reasons people don't want to live here, are jobs and schools, but neither of those would be an issue for you.

I know you said no to suburbs, but what about Old Metairie? Lot of retired people there. Very safe. Very easy to get into the city for stuff.

Do you have family / kids / grandkids here?

What do you want to get out of retirement? If you plan to travel a lot, this might not be the best place for you. If you want to fish a lot, this is a great place.

I imagine their lock on Utah is a lot like the north LA baptists lock on LA. Preventing weed and sports betting, etc

Hell no, at least to living within Orleans Parish. Live in Jefferson, St Tammany or Plaquemines if you want to come back to New Orleans area.

Just a few of my reasons to avoid living in Orleans Parish:

-Higher taxes than surrounding parishes

-Roads are terrible and full of potholes

-Constant issues with NOLA Sewage and Water Board. Either streets flooding after relatively minor rain storms because pumps weren't working, boil water advisories or no pressure because 100+ year old water mains broke, getting huge water bills for no apparent reason and having to fight with them to get it fixed.

-Crime is higher than surrounding areas and the police dept is undermanned and often has terrible response times for car accidents or non-violent property crimes.

Visit Orleans Parish when you want to do something, but don't live in it.

Dh is a Louisiana boy. Not only would we not choose to live in NO, we choose not to travel there either. We stay as far away from there as possible and avoid NO airport like the plague. Its cultural and historical attractions have been marred by the violence and degradation of the quality of life there. When a NO native tells you 'don't go past that street or that street' if you want to stay safe, it's best to save your $$ and see the rest of LA. Besides, the café au lait and beignets are so much better and cheaper at Coffee Call.
