I agree, but this isn't the best final solution

You got this wrong. Drafted guys was almost all we had. Everybody did as ordered and everybody had each other's back. We had drafted guys that were promoted to E-5, some actually doing the job of E-6s and even 2nd Louis sometimes, all this with barely over 1 year from induction.

We would have won that dam war too if it had not been for the dam politicians.

Look at all of the proud Americans that have Vietnam hats on. If they were Army, and most are, they were most likely drafted. You see proud Americans. We have a vested interest now.

I did it. I experienced it. We all grew up a lot. Remembering my guys gives me chills to this day. I stay in contact with 2.

Although I know it would be good for most people I'm against mandatory conscription. Too costly and the military has no use for that many people.

True story: My great great grandpa was conscripted into the Confederate Army. He went AWOL after a year, got caught a month later and spent the rest of the war in a southern stockade. I suppose most black people didn't want to fight for the south after Lincoln brought the slavery issue into the picture. Or maybe he just wanted to go home to feed the 9 kids he had.

I work with Marine Corps recruits. There is a fair amount of washout with the volunteers. I cannot imagine how bad it'd be with people forced to be in the military.

Agreed. It would most certainly degrade the Armed Forces capabilities and readiness

Had mandatory service for years and it did no such thing.

you are missing on part of your effort

1. the only way most people could accept mandatory conscription is life and death conflict. helps if God is on our side too. vs heathens, unbelievers and the truly insane monsters, i.e. Hitler, Mao.

2. they don't approve of some things USA did and some GOP/rich are still wanting to do those things. some were eventually admitted. you probably don't see any problem with the CIA influencing elections around the world.

We don't train up and deploy in the same manner as we used to. 2 years is fine if you rotate individuals in and out of theater like Vietnam. It's really pushing it to fit iet, pre-deployment, deployment, and unit recovery into that window.

Absolutely, 100% correct, but these 20 year olds know everything. Google Elvis being conscripted into the US Army.

Conscription. It is absolutely the last thing the services want.

Our population is too large to put that many people on the payroll, or even just feed and house them. There are 75 million millenials, whereas our armed services have about 1.5 million active duty. It would cost more than the current defense budget to train that many people to do anything useful

Hell no I don't want mandatory service. I do NOT want to get in a firefight with some turd with no upper body strength who doesn't even want to be there.

A free country does not force military service upon it's citizens. Forced is the exact opposite of free.
