My brother in Christ, she's a phenomenal player, but she plays against women. She's smaller, weaker, and slower than most male high school players.

put her in a game with average to good high school male basketball players and she wouldnt score a point, and she might not even get a shot off unless she just randomly jacks a halfcourt shot or something. her ONLY hope would be one of her teammates setting a phenomenal pick and her getting open for an instant, but even that would be unlikely.

The WNBA is projected to bring in a 200 million profit this year,

where are you getting this number from? how much did they make last year? i dont think they even break even most years, if ever.

you must have meant revenue...no way they are making 200 million profit, ever. i'm honestly surprised they are making 200 million in revenue.

Sports are the few occupations in life where being outstanding in your gender in a specific sport doesn't equate equality with the opposite gender of the same sport.

Billie Jean King, age 29, beating Bobby Riggs, age 55, does not make her a better player than he was.

Well as some have said that she would have been better off staying at Iowa and collecting much bigger NIL money.
Really?

I suspect that the national endorsements available to her as a player in the WNBA would probably exceed the Iowa NIL money from Billy Bob's Tractors & Implements.

She is likely to earn her employer more than her salary
Almost certainly.

But more than first-pick rookie in the NBA? Because they seem to be arguing that she should be getting a salary comparable to that male player.

Per above, in any case, I suspect that her endorsement income will relegate her salary check to the petty cash drawer.

The NBA provides the WNBA with an annual endowment of over $15 million. This financial support helps cover various operating costs for WNBA teams, including facilities, travel, marketing, and administration. As of 2023, the NBA owns 50% of the WNBA, while the 12 WNBA teams collectively own the other 50%. This shared ownership underscores the NBA’s commitment to women’s basketball..

If it wasn’t for the NBA the WNBA would not exist

quote:

The WNBA generates less revenue compared to the NBA. The financial resources from ticket sales, merchandise, and broadcasting deals are not sufficient to sustain WNBA operations independently. The NBA recognizes the need for a professional women’s league. By subsidizing the WNBA, the NBA champions gender equality in sports and provides role models for aspiring female players.

It’s all about the optics. They can’t let the little kids see that the WNBA can’t survive on its own. They could always go play in Russia. Just don’t bring any illegal drugs with you

Yeah, I think he meant top line Gross $200M. No way the WNBA had bottom line profits of $200M last year...or any year before that.

Maybe women everywhere should focus on supporting women's sports rather than watching Real Housewives

I would bet the vast majority of women, a super-majority, have no idea that any of this is happening.

Her endorsement deals are at 3.1 MM and contain mostly national brands. Sporting News. She hasn’t been stuck with farm equipment in some time

The arguments about her level of prowess notwithstanding, when it comes to endorsements she is a modern Arnold Palmer

OK. I guess my sarcasm was not telegraphed adequately, so I award an upvote for the clever response.

But does anyone think that number will DECREASE upon her entering the WNBA?

I don't understand the argument that she would make more money be remaining at Iowa.

I'm a woman and not outraged. I think she should just change genders and go play in the NBA for more money.

I think it could decrease. the NCAA women's tournament was artificially propped up by a relentless two week marketing campaign where everyone from Shaq and Lebron to the local weatherman were regurgitating the same talking points about how the women's tournament is way better than the men's this year ("i know five women players names, i dont know any of the men" and "the women's has much better storylines" were the two favorite go-to's). it was two weeks of wall to wall coverage, and i bet next year will be even more of this. more potential coverage would / should equal more endorsement deals.
