They have nothing better to do than tease and provoke believers. Seem like good hearted people.

I really wish they wouldn't lump us agnostics in with the dumb annoying atheists.

pretty much everyone is an agnostic. its very misunderstood viewpoints, its pretty much "I have no clue"

Most atheists are soft atheists meaning they do not deny the existence of god, they just don't believe in one. This makes them agnostic atheist.

The root of the issue is people have a visceral hatred of atheists, bordering on the absurd. Chances are you are actually an atheist, and you just refuse to admit it to yourself.

Do you actively believe in God? If the answer to that is no, you are an atheist. Now, you might also be agnostic too.

Obviously there are extremes to both sides, but I think you see rustled jimmies because to see a governing body take a specific religious stance is something they disagree with, right or wrong.

ETA:

And face it...some Christians are easily trolled.

I don't really have a problem with this, but I just don't understand why these groups feel the need to actively display their hatred of faith.

They do this to make a point about religious freedom in America. If you can display one religion on public grounds you should be able to show them all. Trolling the Bible thumpers just happens to be the cherry on top.

The problem is that they aren't doing this based on an actual belief. They are doing this to stir the pot.

I suspect it will eventually ruin it for everyone.

Right.

One display is based on history, cultural traditions and community norms. The other display is just to be a dick.

Yup.

You can be a country who tells the world we have freedom of religion.

Unless you have freedom of religion.

For too long Christians have thought that meant them and only them...

I tend to agree its a pretty dick move, but you have to understand the mindset of the american atheist. They have been told they are sub-human for the last 100 years, if not longer.

Now they have their chance, and they want to stick their finger in the eyes of christians.

I am not sure its a good long term strategy for acceptance, but I can sure understand why they do it.

Both are based off fictional characters in a literary text.

How? By not allowing any religions (especially Christians) to display anything? Not going to happen. By not allowing atheists to display something? Good luck with that controversy.

What they are displaying here is not a religion in any sense of the word. Do they have a right to display whatever they want? Sure. IDGAF. However I have a right to call them a bully, dick or meanie, when they are being a bully, dick or a meanie.

I don't doubt this but that is a dick move by the other side. I'm sure both sides need to show a little more respect and restraint.

i agree. You attract more flies with honey than vinegar.

I was a militant atheist for a long time, now IDGAF. The only thing I do that is a dick move is to tell "agnostics" that they are atheists.

My suggestion to christians would be why don't you be magnanimous and not petty, it is part of your religion. Something many christians seem to forget.
