Branding is part one of the answer.

Everything and everyone is now a brand.

Universities are a brand.

Pro athletes are their individual brand.

Mass media, cable news, popular entertainment ect are part two of the answer. All are geared towards the two primary brands; the statist liberal and the statist conservative.

News shows, songs, movies, ect are all aimed at hitting the emotional chords of the two prevalent brands and people absorb the absolute shite out of it all. They soak it in like a sponge and become more and more entrenched by the boundaries of their brand.

Think about it, for many conservatives the mere mention of the environment is an automatic turn off. Environmental concern is just not built into their brand. Of course when confronted with this I'd guess many conservatives would quickly dismiss this and say they have great concern for the environment, they're just not going to go hug a tree.

This issue with our division is novel worthy, it can hardly be answered in one post, or one thread.

It does amaze me that one of the most memorable quotes of all time 'divide and conquer' is so often forgotten by the masses. We are being divided by the state-corporate machine for their benefit.

Occupy and Tea Party have the same fundamental goals, yet they're made out to be on opposite ends of the spectrum. Both niche's are easily controlled and basically harmless to the state. 'Divide and conquer'.

Each day we let these idiots in DC make laws, ignore laws, pull the puppet string, etc, we are sinking into oblivion.

There hasn't been a time that the U.S. Was not relevant on the world scene since WW1 until BHO was in office. The democrats want to continue to tax the working class while paving an interstate to prosperity for those that do not contribute to the country/ democratic system this nation was founded on. Wackos like Pelosi coming out saying that the ACA is going to be a plug for the Dems in 14 as well as Biden saying Obama should be granted Sainthood for his patience of the roll out is plum damn embarrassing. There is no accountability in this country other than the folks in the working class. It's not in the White House, main stream media, senate, house, welfare line, or IRS. This country is a complete joke to us conservatives as well as the rest of the world. Everyone continues to kick the can down the sidewalk without picking it up and throwing it away.

That's the reason in the great divide.

Media. I imagine it was probably similar during the yellow journalism newspaper period. We're living in a similar time now with tv. Just look at the insanity of Fox and msnbc. If you just stopped everyone who rely on those two channels from voting we'd be better off.

It goes deeper than news media. All mainstream entertainment from film to song play on the emotions of the two primary brands.

Whaat?

Whether or not there are conservatives in entertainment is irrelevant.

You don't get the divide and conquer thing, I guess.

I will say I voted (D) twice, but I think he has failed us and at this point I do regret not having Romney or better yet McCain as president.

McCain would've been as terrible as Obama is right now.

Romney? He would've been an economics genius and put out good results domestically and improved the economy a lot but we would have more continued war overseas and DOD becoming more bigger than before.

Really bro. Your Narrative has jumped to shark. I mean it starts okay, but then it always detours to Silly Land, where you ask us to believe in fundamentally untrue things.

They really aren't. One seeks State solutions and the other doesn't. I mean they are fundamentally different by all accounts. They have a lot of the same resentments, but really completely different goals.

bro Sleeping Tiger is "all in" on the Chomsky notion that Libertarianism is really just a disguise for corporatism

They have some major commonalities. Their core desires are essentially the same. Take power from the corporate/government machine and give it to the people.

Both wish to

- Remove monetary influence from politics. Get the corporate hand out of the picture.

- Against bailouts.

- End the Federal Reserve.

Among others.

These similarities seem like the foundation of a friendship, yet the way these groups are painted by the media plays a huge role in their opposing perceptions.

One group is fundamentally wanting those things to increase economic freedom and opportunity, the other is to simply break down the Market economy there is your big difference.
