There has been 75 to 80 years of movement to the left in both the media and academia. I don't believe it is a natural movement but rather one by design. Without the media and academia the left would be as irrelevant as their ideas. As things stand today they control the narrative.

The media's goal is to make money.

The way they do that is by slanting in favor of corporate sponsors and by stirring the pot on social issues in order to get viewers.

The most involved people are the most susceptible to media effects. You are not immune to media effects. In fact, you are among the most easily affected.

I'm of the opinion that the western world is growing increasingly liberal because of increased separation of real life issues, ie procuring food, clothing, self defense, etc. All of our kids grow up in this environment where everything is about them and nothing will ever go wrong because everything is planned by mommy or daddy. God forbid they have to shoot an animal to eat or budget for their family or fight off an intruder trying to rob them. The world is whatever they want it to be and when things go wrong, they want mommy and daddy or the government to make the bad things go away.

And to further my point, I started washing dishes when I was 15. I worked nights, got home around 1am, and was in class(Highschool) every day.

Some of us lived the real world before hearing about the utopia college 'professors' taught.

I loved debating the majority of my poli sci teachers/classmates and their utter stupidity.

You are probably confusing me with TxTiger, the conspiracy guy. I am not that guy. I have actually been around much longer than that guy.

Public opinion research supports what I said about the most involved. You are on this board discussing politics. That automatically makes you one of the most politically involved people in the country. I could point you toward these studies if you'd like, but I doubt you'd learn from them because you have it all figured out already.

I learned the real world long before that. I actually learned quite a bit regarding my history classes.

Always was my favorite topic.

That's ultimately why I dropped out of college. Too many communists teaching our good Christian children that homo sex and poverty is a good thing.

No problem. It happens a lot. My fault for picking an unoriginal screenname back in the day.

It also doesn't help that the media are all based out of New York which is as liberal as it gets.

New research suggests that political leanings are based on a persons risk tolerance which is genetically gifted. A better argument may be that liberals are drawn to journalism at a higher rate.

It's amazing how in this age of media we have the ability to receive news from any number of sources, yet this type of thread is still going strong.

People get their version of the news from whatever source will reinforce previous beliefs. TV news all has a bias and the people watching are doing so because they hear what they what to and feel good about it. Another example is the majority of posters here.

Having worked in NY in the media business for 14 years, here's what I can tell you:
1) Those that end up being journalists generally study arts/humanities courses. They rarely have a background in finance, math, science, statistics, etc; and so therefore they are unqualified to question what they are being told by their sources, which are usually either corporatists, or politicians.

2) Back in the day, you could pay for an editorial staff to do fact checking. Nowadays? not so much. This is how stories like George Zimmerman, Ferguson, Beer summit, etc.; get published. The media doesn't have the time nor the budget to check facts, they have to trust sources. Otherwise someone will beat them to the punch.

3) Nobody ever calls them on their bullshite for #1 / #2. So they keep doing what they do.
