Most Christians believe that if we are good to Israel, God will be good to us. It says that in the Bible.

With 75% of our population that identifies as Christian you might have heard;

Genesis 12:2-3
2 And I will make thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great: and thou shalt be a blessing:
3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

Jesus Predicts the Destruction of the Temple

1"Jesus came out from the temple and was going away when His disciples came up to point out the temple buildings to Him. 2 And He said to them, “Do you not see all these things? Truly I say to you, not one stone here will be left upon another, which will not be torn down.”
3 As He was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things happen, and what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?”

4 And Jesus answered and said to them, “See to it that no one misleads you. 5 “For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will mislead many. 6 “You will be hearing of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not frightened, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end. 7 “For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes. 8 “But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pangs.

9 “Then they will deliver you to tribulation, and will kill you, and you will be hated by all nations because of My name. 10 “At that time many will fall away and will betray one another and hate one another. 11 “Many false prophets will arise and will mislead many. 12 “Because lawlessness is increased, most people’s love will grow cold. 13 “But the one who endures to the end, he will be saved. 14 “This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come."

Because they think they share our western values when reality is that they're more similar to Muslims than to Christians. Plus, Israel is the authoritarian rights version of utopia.. not much freedom, shoot Muslims, no real election process, etc.

They have some fine arse women though.

2 reasons

One is totally religious and the other is they think of Israel as our only true ally in the region.

The reason i like Israel strong is because they can whip the muslims arse. I would prefer we give them less money and we let them handle the middle east.

Not only that, but Israel has the evidence that 911 was an inside job perpetrated by Bush-Hitler and Darth Cheney, at the order of our Overlord space aliens, headed by Lothar The Magnificent. We wouldn't want that to get out.

It is geostrategic. Like a quasi-presence of the U.S. right in the Arab's backyard. It keeps the deceptive beheaders honest. Like a teacher watching over her unruly class.

Delusional.

It is not delusional at all. Israel wanted Saddam gone and we removed him.

US policy clearly was best served by a stable Iraq and that was known.

"WEBB:
But the starting point is the move into Iraq, separate all the
political considerations aside, was a strategic blunder. And for us to
have such a high percentage of our military tied down in essentially
occupying and attempting to reconstruct a society of a nation is a
very bad idea. And it absorbs people. And it not only absorb people
when you think about enlistments and this sort of thing, it absorbs
people from other areas around the world, so that we can't pay proper
attention to security concerns elsewhere.

MATTHEWS: Why do our leaders, starting with the president down, why
did they not expect nationalistic resistance to an occupation in Iraq,
when our whole history of the world tells us, expect people to resist
occupation?
WEBB: You know, the sad thing is, there not a thing that has
occurred in Iraq that was not only predictable but predicted. And
predicted with good military advice to this administration.

MATTHEWS: Did ideology overwhelm military history here? Is that why we
went in with such confidence?

WEBB: My view of it, when Vice President Cheney repeatedly says that
the people who have questioned the war against Iraq don't understand
the post-9/11 world, my view is the complete reverse. The people who
did this, this was on their to-do list when they got into the
administration, and they did not...
MATTHEWS: Cheney?

WEBB: Cheney and the whole group that really put this together. They
wanted this as a part of what was going to happen in the Bush
administration. One way or the other, they were waiting for...

(CROSSTALK)

MATTHEWS: That? why they joined, you could argue.

WEBB: And in my view, these people don? understand the realities
post-9/11. Post-9/11, this was a bad idea. Pre-9/11, I still would
have opposed it, but at least it was an arguable idea.

MATTHEWS: Because?hy is it more of a bad idea now since 9/11?

WEBB: Because international terrorism really moved in a dramatic way
from a regional problem to a global problem. We saw that we had to
step to the forefront. We had all the nations of the world with us
after 9/11. And we systematically alienated a huge percentage of the
world at a time we needed their cooperation. We tied down our military
in static positions when we had developed, for 10 or 15 years, we had
worked on a maneuverable military. And now we dumped them into static
positions. So it is a bad idea in terms of international politics, a
bad idea in terms of grand strategy, and a bad idea in how to use the
military."

But it was GREAT for Israel.

The Bushies wanted to invade Iraq no matter what.

It made lots of money for Wall Street and for Cheney personally.

It made them look tough on terror after their miserable failre on 9/11 -and it set the stage for the disaster we see in the ME today - and they didn't care.

In no particular order:

Strategic reasons pertaining to the Middle East

Muh Jesus (I grew up baptist, and some of those churches literally taught us the only reason the US prospers is because we protect Israel)

A dash of holocaust guilt

Jews run the United States

ETA: I would like to add that I personally don't agree with any of those "main" reasons other than strategic. I actually like Israel, but the only reason is because I fricking hate Muslims and Israelis are badasses.
