NK isn't a Muslim country, so it's somewhat "safer" in some people's eyes. no one's gonna get attacked for not wearing the burqa, and they have a side of the story they want told

Because they will routinely go to dangerous places to bring you news. People should try respecting the profession a bit more.

News channels cover more than politics and entertainment.

Doubtful they were "gunned down". That terminology is used as intentional.

Perhaps they were caught up in a gun fight, however, they certainly were aware of that possibility before putting themselves in harms way.
