I love how these people who live in the embodiment of everything they claim to hate have no issues living in these places while denigrating everyone else who doesn't.

i give John Oliver credit for one thing. when he did his bit on school segregation he called out NYC and showed how the south was much less segregated (i think it's the least segregated part of the country...no shock there for those who live here)

You'd have to pass a law banning white people.

You think the white man needs to ride in and save them.

You don't think they can survive on their own without the white man.

I hate adding to this troll of a thread but what she said above reminds me a a Lil' Abner comic strip I read back in my youth. It was my first introduction to the concept of welfare malfunction.

One of Abner's worthless cousins was sitting on a run down porch complaining about a dead cat on the floor. = Said = "that cat's been laying there dead for a week and the government ain't come to take it away yet!!!!"

That one sentence turned on the light for me and I have never turned away from that essential truth.

Al Capp also had a character called a smoo - it was shaped like a ham and would turn into anything you wanted it to be. And when it was used up, it reproduced to make another one so you never ran out of having your greatest desire at your wish. Someone finally figured out that it was harmful and they got rid of the smoos. don't remember how they did it.

Fearless Fosdick was another of Capp's thought provoking characters.

Anyone else remember these characters??????????

We are friends and I'm not blasting anyone. I just think the uber wealthy need to share the wealth. If they won't do it on their own, then we need to make them.

Seems like everything is directed against the poor (who are mostly minority). No minimum wage increase. No new overtime law. Gentrification. Dilapidated schools. Penal system inequities.

While I admire your compassion and intentions, you are so consistently WRONG about everything to the point that it invokes a certain degree of hostility.

I don't mind people being stupid, but being stupid yet overly opinionated is hard to deal with.

Neighborhoods change. There is a cycle to most neighborhoods (neighborhoods near places like universities are typically an exception due to their high turnover rate with student populations)

First is agriculture. Then, agriculture gives way to new residential developments with young couples. Those couples have kids and improve their properties. Kids move out, parents retire. Older people struggle to maintain their homes and homes get dated as new finishes, layouts, and appliances become fashionable. As the original buyers start to move out to retire, the wealthy ones move to newer, nicer neighborhoods or older nicer neighborhoods.

The old people start to die off and their children sell. Since the houses are older now and there's newer nicer housing elsewhere, the people moving in are poorer, relatively speaking than the first set. They are more working poor. Once the old guard has died off and been completely replaced by the new generation, one of two things happens:
Section 8 or gentrification.

Either the new generation modernizes the homes and makes them like new again, fixing them up to make them trendy, or they just give up and start collecting a government check to lease them to the dregs of society. Those dregs then proceed to rob and vandalize the surrounding homes causing them to move out and go section 8 as well to avoid the hassle.

As a neighborhood ages and turns over: it can either renew itself or die.

That's like saying society caused me to not be in the NFL. Not the fact that I'm not good enough to be in the NFL.

Jesus this troll is good. No one can be this stupid. Heir she keep contradicting his/herself. So now, rich WHITE folk should take their own money and just invest in poor area with no positive return? Didn't you say we needed to leave them alone and now it's they need our money to succeed. But not too much or it will price out the poor. The only ones to blame for this mess are the idiots who thought up these policies. I find it interesting how you claim you're staying put yet you're neighbors with 2 physicians so you must be roughing it hard with doctors as your neighbors.

So when are you selling your farm and cushy gated community house and donating it to inner city charities?

You should live in something more modest, and if you won't do it on your own, then we need to make you.

you live in a nice part of Dallas, are you saying it would be okay for someone to hold you for ransom?... you know, to make them share the wealth?

What kind of tactics are on the table here? We already have the "Robin Hood Act" in Texas to siphon money from richer schools to poorer schools.

So, there are people in the inner cities that don't live in such a nice community. Why do you get to live in University Park when they have to live in Section 8 housing?

Why do you deserve to have a farm as well? That land could go to someone who doesn't have as much as you.

You're a greedy white privileged woman who should be ashamed of herself for your blatant lack of compassion for your fellow humans who aren't as fortunate as you. If you truly cared, you would sell all that property that you don't need and give it to those who do. No one needs two properties. One is enough.
