I really just meant in dealing with the young atheists on this site.

quote:

Just before the Protestant Reformation occurred in 1517, there were only two differing Christian churches in the world: the Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church. Both churches, by that point in time, virtually agreed on everything EXCEPT the authority of the papacy.

500 years later, you have nearly 40,000 different Protestant denominations - each one of them slightly (or in some cases severely) different from the other.

Have you ever wondered why godlessness and immorality have slowly crept through our society? Perhaps it's because people see a divided Christian Church who can't even agree on when you should baptize a person? When they see Christians fighting over little pieces of doctrine such as that, it's no wonder they question whether or not there is a God.

A true reason why a religion board would be great on this site. I really think Chicken dropped the ball on this.

I get your point. It just isn't really gonna fly here. Look at the fricking OP. Dude is a huge racist, yet he gets to spew his anti Christianity rhetoric. It's best not to get upset about it.

I think of the Pope...

And that quote from Chaucer:

"As soon as a coin in the coffer rings, a soul from purgatory springs"

And Indulgences from the Middle Ages...buying your way to heaven...and how the church brought it back today.

The Catholic Church was the world's first Corporation and its CEO - the Pope.

I'm glad that you were comforted and inspired by the Church during this time, truly. Just don't make the mistake of thinking that the miserable will be glad that you found happiness. Just the way it is.

Not a whole lot Paulka. I was Catholic for a year Of my life.

I know and read the bible though, I am very proud of that. Humbled beyond measure by my own faults, but greatful to have God's word.

--I'm sorry, but you will have to show me in the bible where we are directed to show reverence to Mary, a humble servant of God who was given the inestimable privilege of carrying the life of his son, Jesus Christ, until he was born. The references to her in the bible are few, but always her humility and meekness are highlighted.
When did she become 'the mother of God'?

--The apostle Peter, on whom you have built the Papacy, was a MARRIED MAN, yet you insist that an elite group of leaders, and Popes, supposedly descendants of Peter, remain unmarried. And you wonder why sexual deviation and perversion is scourging 'the faith'

--The dogmas are endless. From transubstantiation to directing prayers to 'Saints' instead of God. I bet the bible is never opened up at all.

Oh and I never said Protestants were any better. You all are just. That. Bad

Hey, I grew up as a Catholic, left the faith, and had an issue come up where I was on the edge of a bad choice.

I decided to hit up a Sunday service, and it changed my life.

Good enough for me. Don't really care what the haters have to say.

I see no need to argue. I know for myself. Don't care what others think.

eta: for the life of me, I can not remember what the homely was. It may have something to do with what I had been doing(in terms of remembering), but I wish I could remember what passage it came from.

Oh well

It's ok, ignorance is bliss, and you seem a little young in years

Do you even Holy Trinity?

Sounds like during the one year you were Catholic that you never actually attended mass.

My mother was born Catholic. Had two kids. I remover at age 8, she started making a 'comeback' and we attended the church, until I was 9. Let's just say I had an experience I'll never forget, and we left 'the church'. Didn't deter me from reading the bible though. I was convinced that the bible was the faithful and true word of God, and had no ties to the Catholic Church whatsoever.

The Catholic Church is a giant thought history and has influenced major events.

Putting their historical significance and how powerful they were/are into a picture....

I hope you are not referring to yourself. Any abuses by clergy are especially hurtful given the amount of trust and authority to religious leaders. The Church certainly hardened the hearts of so many people by putting the institution above those it served. Like I said before I am not Catholic but hope all groups will nurture and serve those who come to them for spiritual guidance.

You also keep mentioning the Bible and reading it. I do agree that The Church didn't stress the study of it as much as other Groups, to say never opening it would be incorrect.
