not in the next couple of cycles. but if the trends keep moving in the direction they have been moving in then it will.

Naw you get within a foot or two and they take a flop.

Look at the numbers in the poll. Of the polled people, there were 8% points difference in registered R's and registered Ds.
There was about 8% difference in the ballot question.
The polls of the single issues questioned were mostly in favor of the GOP's stance.
I also find it odd that 50% of those polled were ages 55-74 (Baby boomers) when they only account for 12% of Texas' population.
When it comes down to it, Wendy doesn't stand a chance. Conservative voters will have to have a very low turnout for her to win.

we fit in just fine in Austin, but living in a progressive city for the first time has only lead to me wanting to live in a progressive state next.
it's like knowing nothing but black and white television your whole life and suddenly being introduced to color. And then you hear about this thing called HD.
Lol.
Well done.

Unless the mexicanos have a change of heart.
Bush won 49% of Latinos in Texas. It can be done...the GOP needs a viable candidate. People like McCain and Romney won't resonate with Mexicans
In the Texas primary, the heavily hispanic counties in South Texas went largely against Davis and voted for an unknown candidate. Many attribute that to catholic hispanics being strongly against abortion.

Is Abbot that unpopular of a candidate?
This poll being cited gives Abbott a 49.2% Favorable rating vs a 33.4% Unfavorable rating.
It gives Wendy Davis a 40.9% Favorable rating and a 45.1% Unfavorable rating.
Net +20 for Abbott ...

The fact that Abbot didn't throw Ted Nugent under the bus after he made those comments about Obama was a profile in cowardice. Unlike Abbot, Rand Paul had no connection to Nugent but he didn't hesitate to slam him. I think a Davis victory force the entire Republican Party to do some soul searching and confront demographic realities sooner rather than later. Why are other Republicans having such a hard time seeing the future as Paul does?

well to be fair, he's just pandering to the dog and pony show. it's pretty blatant
i don't think he's racist, but he's toting the race baiter PR line to avoid being called a racist by association

Well it's not like that's got a snowball's chance in hell of happening

So you think people are lying when they talk about how drastically the demographics have changed over the last 40 years? DO you really think Reagan's campaign strategy would be successful today despite the fact that Romney won a larger share of the White vote than he did?
EDIT: I don't think Paul has pandered one bit. He really believes all the things he's preaching to Black and Hispanic audiences.

you mean racial? that's just fact. i'm not arguing it

i don't really care as much. if any voting bloc wants to be monolithic and irrational (in terms of actual issues and not sound bites or mythical perceptions), then nothing will change their minds. it is what it is
the only voting trends that seem to really matter are the ones showing more voters are voting emotionally and over social issue boogeymen.
that is the only trend that may be able to change. if it doesn't change, the GOP is fricked. if that is the case, the GOP has no shot in national elections. end of story. any discussion is a waste of energy
