In an interview with the The Economist published Thursday, the President was asked about his tax plan’s potential to increase the deficit. In response, Trump used the phrase “prime the pump,” and asked if his interviewer knew what it meant.

“Have you heard that expression used before? Because I haven’t heard it. I mean, I just… I came up with it a couple of days ago and I thought it was good,” Trump said in the interview.

Merriam-Webster responds with:
quote:

'Pump priming' has been used to refer to government investment expenditures since at least 1933. https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/pump%20priming …

And research finds:
quote:

The term is commonly used in economic discussions — including by Trump himself, in an interview with TIME for Trump’s Person of the Year story last fall.

Can't make this shite up. Most entertaining presidency ever.

There's a helluva lot more Reps out there that know Lincoln was an R than Democrats that know it.

I'm a bit out of the loop. I had never seen anyone use this phrase with regards to economic strategy before. Can someone link me to where this has been used before to describe economics?

Thanks.

Real "Trumpkins" don't give one whit about everything Trump says...never have or he would have lost. Some of it's off-the-wall. Funny really. It's seriously about what he DOES that counts. And he is wreaking havoc on the Dems; that's why they are losing it to bring him down. Which they never will be able to do.

Trump is right re "priming the pump". The Dems will sign on to Infrastructure and that will be the end of their former hegemony. Because the economy will boom...and their Alinsky induced strategy of "engineered collapse" will go to hell. Right where it belongs. And them that cling to that sinking ship as well.

Here's a quote from everyone's favorite President, back when he was a candidate in 2008:

And part of our job and part of Congress' job is not only to prime the pump through the stimulus package that has already passed, but I also think a critical area is to shore up the housing market, so I'm glad to see the president put forward proposals that are prospective proposals.

Interesting. So if obama is the only one to have said it, good chance Trump didn't know about it since he didn't follow obama religiously.

Thanks.
