Just learned this. Didn't realized it was that much.
Japan pays us $1.7B / year for protection.

The price of maintaining our international order. Obviously $1.7B doesn't begin to cover that. But they aren't really paying us for "protection."

probably because we are not authorized to based on the Posse Comitatus act which limits the federal government using federal military personnel to enforce domestic policies.
