No reason why all of those agencies can't be privatized and still accomplish what they do now through first amendment rights to lobbying congress.

...

Which of these things, do you think, would turn a profit if privatized?

If you have a problem with military spending then you need to complain about our worldwide commitments that demand that level of expense. I don't remember the left complaining about our numerous wars and worldwide commitments like NATO when Obama was president. you can't support wars in Syria, Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan and other parts of the world and also support the guaranteed defense of Europe and then complain about how much it costs to meet those commitments.

At least as much of a profit as they are turning now, don't you think?

There isn't a more wasteful group than the military complex when it comes to spending, between the "spend it or lose it" practice for budgeting, and Congress' utilization of the funds to construct/appropriate funds for their own little projects in their states.

Honestly? Until the military budget can be audited and practices put into place to eliminate the waste, all of this is grandstanding amounting to NOTHING except putting a lot of people out of work while lining the pockets of Senators and military defense contractors.

Erroneous argument.

Does the fire department turn a profit? The police department (well, maybe, depending on the city and how much they are willing to write tickets and confiscate property)?

Does the road turn a profit? The military?

Should we see about privatizing all of these?

I love what he is doing, but he should also start merging/reducing redundant departments. Simply unfunding them will allow the next president to fund them. Eliminate them, shut them down, and transfer any function that they could argue is needed to another department.

Let me know when he actually cuts spending and reduces the size of government. Axing 19 agencies and moving the money to other agencies and commissions like the one he's starting called VOICE doesn't shrink government. He's just reprioritizing and moving money around to the bureaucracy that he wants. And, he's increasing spending, not cutting.

Unless he gets serious about actually cutting spending, we'll still have a swamp. It will just have different swamp creatures in it.

eople will assume he hates all of these things just he doesn't believe these specific federal agencies are required for each.

For instance, cutting; Legal Service Corporation doesnt mean this country will be without legal services. And cutting U.S. Institute of Peace doesn't mean we will be declaring war.
Yet some will use him cutting the African Development Foundation to rile up the people like he is against the development of the AA community. There are countless agencies that already encompass that.

Some of these agencies seem like overkill.

seem?
