I'm tempted to say they're doing this to hurt Hillary, because she dissed OFA in her book, but I guess the diversionary tactic trumps all.

The diversion part is for PR purposes at a time when Obama needed it the most.

But the real reason for the timing is this:

The Benghazi Select Committee is ready to begin its work.

This is what you will hear over and over again from witnesses, particularly Kerry and Clinton, as well as numerous other past and current administration senior officials:

"I cannot comment on that / respond to that / answer that question because there is an alleged key participant in custody of the FBI and any statement made could compromise that investigation and potential prosecution."

I'm telling you, you will hear that in these hearings.

He will adapt to any new obstacles this arrest creates. The purpose of the Committee is not, and never was, to identify and prosecute the attackers or those who planned the attack. If someone like Issa, who can't control his emotions and can be easily taken off course, were on the Committee, I'd be a bit concerned. Gowdy has plenty of time to strategize around this before the hearings start in September.
