Make no mistake about it. Republicans better get on the Trump train or they are a dying breed. We won't put up with spending like Bush did and we won't put up with social injustices to any group of people.

I hope Trump cuts out the fat and we can't get this going in the right direction.

This.

I hope by the end of the first term, Trump is working with a new version of the republican party. The old one just cant exist or even grow for that matter if they dont change. Goes for both parties.

to be fair, the voters clearly told the GOP its status quo wasn't acceptable anymore. If the GOP doesn't listen, the GOP will officially die next round.

Democrats are changing. They're going even further to the left. Have you seen who they are pushing to head the DNC?

the republican party still has the schism that the primary and general election uncovered. winning fixes a lot of thing, but you can't go back and see trump's rise and the GOPe distancing, even though he won.

The democrats had a schism too, but it was overshadowed by the republican issues. Their problem is now at the forefront, due to getting schlonged.

I think POTUS-Elect Trump is only a small part of the bigger picture: Americans are repudiating liberal/progressive policy at all levels of Government.

People are tired of having their hard earned money taken and redistributed by others who don't play by the same rules and given to those who won't do for themselves.

I'm not saying everything is perfect for them. I'm saying it's infinity better than the pundit-class predicted

Watch out. This republican majority is not as it seems to be, same as in Louisiana. There are MASSIVE fault lines in the GOP coalition that will need to work together if Trump is going to govern effectively. This will be a huge challenge for Trump early and often in his presidency. If he cannot satisfy all of the camps under the big tent, the midterms could get messy. The truce in the war for the GOP's soul between the libertarians, evangelicals, and chamber of commerce is an uneasy one, and could resume at any moment.

I think it's a mistake to over-read the election. There was a definite populist repudiation of Washington D.C. I wouldn't extend that to a repudiation of liberal-progressivism. There's a definite swing of the pendulum away from PCism. Beyond that, there's still huge subsets of the society that are more than happy to take from whoever the government will take from on their behalf.

Yes. Both parties moving a little left is a good thing. Republicans moving left is a step back to center. Democrats moving left will one day ensure that the party breaks in two or dissolves altogether.

I was thinking about that the other day I'm pretty sure all the Dems are asking "WTF happened?"

I don't think it is. The reason that the DNC problems were not forefront is b.c everyone thought hillary was going to win. The DNC had a insurgency that was crushed, the republican one wasn't.

Now that trump has won, the focus (righftuflly) is on the loser's problems.

In some ways, the problems are more problematic for the RNC. Winning will paper over the problems for a while.

its going to be fun to watch both parties over the next few years.

The GOP now controls Congress and the White House. Overall, how have the ranks of Democrats been affected during President Obama’s two terms?

The political capital and energy required to rationalize Obama's incoherent policies for 8 years disintegrated the Democratic party. https://twitter.com/TheFix/status/797896165362569216 …
