Regarding Russia wanting build more nukes.
The MADMAN! Putin has no idea what he's dealing with. This is not your capitulation, bowing, red-line erasing U.S. President here.
quote:
on Friday’s Morning Joe, during an off-air conversation with Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough, Trump daftly asserted — according to the MSNBC duo — “Let it be an arms race, we will out match them at every pass. And outlast them all.”

Yeah that's what we need - a revived nuclear arms race engineered by 2 egomaniacs.
Exactly, who is Putin preparing for war against? Why is this even necessary?

quote:
In a year-end speech to his top military officers on Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin threw down the gauntlet, declaring that the Russian military, emboldened by recent adventures in Syria and Ukraine, is ready to defeat any country that dares challenge it. “We can say with certainty: we are stronger now than any potential aggressor,” he proclaimed. “Anyone.”
He also made a pitch for bigger and badder nuclear weapons. Putin said Moscow must “strengthen the military potential of strategic nuclear forces, especially with missile complexes that can reliably penetrate any existing and prospective missile defence systems.”

Because what you quoted.

Rome fell quickly into corruption after Carthage was destroyed.
This is good for us.
This is good for us.

That analogy doesn't work in a nuclear armed war between 2 superpowers. How is this good for us? Its good for the war industry - that I can understand. I thought Trump was going to relax tensions with Putie.

I'll go out on a limb and say posturing

Russia doesn't stand a chance in another arms race and Trump is going to work that angle. Putin gets too ambitious or crosses the line, then they'll be a arms race.

You don't understand the analogy. It requires two superpowers, not nuked superpowers. Trump didn't say he plans to start a nuclear war.

The thing is, he has both China and Russia off-balance. This is especially good insofar as China is concerned. They saw us distancing from them and getting close to Russia. That makes them more wary and dangerous. Now, they see a tough stance against Russia and aren't sure what's going on. They begin to think they can negotiate for a better edge. This is classic Trump. He plays to win and plays everyone against each other, with him ultimately winning in 3D chess style.

How is the destruction of the planet good for the war industry. The war industry likes quagmire wars and the threat of a global war. The last thing they want is a nuclear war.

The buildup and heightened tensions approved by a scared public is what feeds them and has fed them since WWII. Eisenhower warned us about this in his last speech.

For goodness sake, they still use computers that use floppy drives to manage launches!

I thought Trump and Putin were best buds? This is getting confusing.

Anyone tired of winning yet?

Trumps a builder, a KGB agent can't keep up with a master carpenter.

Putin has been having his way because of Obamas passivity. It's making our allies in Europe very nervous.
Trumps rhetoric in response to putin is completely appropriate. It doesn't cost anything and it sends a message to our nato allies that the US isn't going to turn and run from putin. This is how wars don't happen. If putin feels like their is no one that will keep him in check, he will over reach and put the US on a very bad position.
