President Trump is announcing plans Friday to decertify the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, saying it is no longer in the United States’ national security interest -- while kicking a decision over whether to restore sanctions back to Congress.

“It is time for the entire world to join us in demanding that Iran’s government end its pursuit of death and destruction,” Trump said in a statement released by the White House.

It was worthless garbage from the start and Iran has treated it as such from the start.

Bubba Clinton enabled NK to get nukes. Jug Ears just wanted to do the same for Iran.

it was a bad deal, but the biggest negative effects have already been felt. if you're going to bust Iran for violating the nuclear part of the deal, then bust them. don't frick up our reputation and then open the door to the US being blamed for Iran going nuclear in 5 years. that's just stupidity

You like paying Iran to develop WMDs?

That is the disappointing thing. Iran thrives with conflict so hopefully the leverage of deeper sanctions will get them to play ball. Doubtful but we don't need another jackass regime lobbing nukes at other countries.

they've already been paid. that's not an argument to back out of the deal. we're not getting that money back

it's a sunk cost. we have to move on

This. It worries me because we have all these "deals" or treaties or whatever that were negotiated bi-laterally with other superpowers, but then we back out when a new admin takes over. Who in the world is ever going to trust us to make deals in the future? And why would they if they think we'll just re neg on them later?

I'd rather us not be holding hands with them when they develop one in 5 years. We'd look like bigger idiots if that were to happen.

Their frozen bank accounts and assets have already been given back. We can't freeze them again without help from China and Russia, which Trump isn't going to get.

The only threat left is the "snap back" provision that the other countries agreed to do if Iran broke the deal. If we break the deal there are no new sanctions and Iran can start accumulating centrifuges again and kick out inspectors.
