If I were being accused of the shite he's being accused of, and were innocent, I'd be kicking and screaming and raising all sorts or racket to be heard. I'd have reporters climbing over the tops of each other to hear my story. But we haven't heard a peep. So either the guy is on lockdown and being forced to be silent, or he's wishing like hell he was still in the mountains of Afghanistan.

I wouldn't make him out to be some sort of highly-trained machine - he was a buck arse private with just over two months in country and wasn't even airborne qualified yet.

IF he cooperated with the TB, my guess would be on very unit- and locale-specific things like lay-out of the base, personality and tendencies of the command, etc. There is nothing tactically a PFC with less than a year's time in could tell the Taliban in 2009/2010 that they haven't already learned through an open source FM or by actually fighting us and observing our tactics for a decade.

And even then, if he was as ate up as he is portrayed to be, I'd guess a lot of his information was either incomplete or inaccurate.

Still doesn't excuse collaborating with the enemy, though...don't get me wrong there.

Let's wait until we know all the facts before we laud Bergdahl.

Unlike Susan Rice who spread possibly harmful gossip on the Sunday shows by saying Bergdahl performed "with honor and distinction."

Well, after the book deal and the movie...and speech circuit....he'll have the bucks to buy his own island. But he will need security though. The SEALS will be pissed; but I doubt they'd ever go rogue.

I think the town wanted to hold it but they realized that the negative PR would be too much not to mention people who would show up to disrupt

Not worth it

we (the US) got abused in the negotiation/swap.

According to Shep Smith on FNC the original demand was for 15 Gitmo detainees and some millions of $$. If that is true there was at least SOME negotiation.

Sounds like Spinal Tap's manager trying to tell the record company that they need to leave the cover of Smell The Glove alone because it's tame compared to what they guys had REALLY asked for.

Can't hold the silence against him. He's in Germany receiving medical treatment which, at this point, probably includes electrical devices attached to his balls. He also, allegedly, can't remember how to speak English. I highly doubt the Admin will let him speak right now.

There have been talks for the swap of Bergdahl for these exact 5 guys for almost three years now, and the stories saying that on mainstream websites are more than abundant. So I would guess if Smith is correct (highly unlikely), the hagglng went like this:

Taliban: So give us the Big Five and we'll give you BB.

Obama: NO

Taliban: We offer again - give us the Big Five and we'll give you BB.

Obama: NO

Taliban: We have new offer - give us Big Five plus 10 more of ours from Guantanamo , plus 3 million American dollars.

Obama: NO

(Long pause)

Taliban: Okay, you win. We'll settle for just the Big Five and no money for BB.

Obama: YESSSS - high five !

From the article:

quote:

“People in Hailey have been aware for some time that there were questions about how Bowe came to be captured, and that there was a chance that Bowe could be in trouble when he came home,” said Stefanie O’Neill, a rally co-organizer.

So, there was some kind of hometown rumor going around about all this before the last couple of days? Hmmm.

Town cancels but the folks seem to continue to prepare (from your link):

quote:

But residents say they support Bergdahl either way and that they’re continuing to prepare for a June 28 rally in his honor.

“People in Hailey have been aware for some time that there were questions about how Bowe came to be captured, and that there was a chance that Bowe could be in trouble when he came home,” said Stefanie O’Neill, a rally co-organizer.

"Residents" is sort of general and undefined. It's a small town, less than 8k people. It seems odd that the circumstances of his capture and situation would be unknown at this point considering the RS article from last year.

The town doesn't want to be responsible if someone kills him during the parade.

I have no doubt that he gave them what he knew. I'm guessing the most he knew were Company SOPs, lay out of the COP, and his limited knowledge on battle drills and weapons. The TB gain much more information about that just looking up the Ranger Handbook online. I highly doubt he knows too much about explosives and anything advanced, and hell I bet he couldn't even teach them how to plot a point.

I'm still kind of hoping this is all bs blown way out of proportion but... It's Wednesday night. There's been plenty of time to release info - even limited info - that might introduce doubt to the multiple witnesses that have provided witness accounts of Bergdaul's behavior & exit from his position. In fact, each time someone from the admin spoke they've only made it worse. That's what's stirring this frenzy... The repeated double downs on stupid. Even dems are back tracking on their initial support.

I really would feel a whole lot better if this was all trumped up bs. But every day that passes makes it harder to be skeptical. Anyone who is intellectually honest would be able to discuss this topic and admit how very bad it looks. I'd be VERY happy to hear or see anything you know of that makes this look better. Please.

No soldier just leaves all his gear and wanders off to get captured. He deserted and may have even aided his "captors". He needs to be investigated and dealt with appropriately based on the findings.
