Salt Lake City — (KUTV) Thousands of people turned up to Brighton High School in Cottonwood Hights, Utah, to attend a town hall with Rep. Jason Chaffetz.
The school's auditorium, with a capacity of 1,100, couldn't hold the crowd so those outside, many with signs, stood and chanted instead.

Inside those who were seated were chanting to let other in and social media seemed to show empty seats. The Cottonwood Heights, Utah, fire marshal took the stage before Chaffetz entered and said it was his decision to close the doors.

The crowd was vocal in support public lands and the Bears Ears National Monument and sometimes cheered or booed over Chaffetz. Mentions of President Trump also brought boos.

The crowd was anti Trump. Yet Utah voted for Trump. I could see people telling Chaffetz to "DO YOUR JOB" as in dismantling ObamaCare and taxes--- as they were chanting...

But these people meant 'do your job', and stop coddling Trump.

I smell a rat. I smell Soros paid protesters. Like the ones on the Veritas videos. The establishment will stop at nothing.

Do you think these protesters are real, or rent a mobs via Soros'?

Why do you find it so hard to believe that people will show up at a town hall to protest?

Trump has wide-spread support for everything he has done so far.

The public lands issue is a true bi-partisan issue. One of the few things that many on both sides of the isle agree on. So I wouldn't be too sure that they are paid vocal protesters.

There was a ton of people against "Jason in the House's" bill to release the sale of 33 Million acres of public land.

Now he has another bill to disband federal law enforcement of these lands and have the understaffed and under-equipped local authorities police the land; just another step to try to get rid of the public lands

I would like to know how many of those people in attendance actually voted for him?

He has support by around 40-50% of the population. That's approximately his approval rating, right? That leaves a lot of people who aren't happy.

I find it hard to believe many people want to keep so much of the west as land owned by the federal government. I understand wanting some lands to remain public, but the government owns an extremely substantial amount of land out west.

The simple solution is that when he holds this meeting, ID must be presented that shows the person is a resident of the district. If not, turn them away. He owes nothing to anyone from outside the district.

Probably not many, if any. But they're still presumably mostly his constituents and he has a duty to represent them. Obviously majority speaks, and I don't think Chaffetz is any danger to lose to a D candidate. But I'm not all that familiar with Utah politics.

Credit to Chaffetz for showing up. A lot of Republicans are cancelling their scheduled town halls.

Yes and no. His constituents need have a voice in how he votes and all but once he's pushing these types of bills the effect all of us, anyone and everyone should voice their displeasure with his proposals

You mean likely voters don't you. That seems as to how all the polls are based. If I'm right, only 53% of eligible voters showed up at the polls so until the other 47% are polled I would take any popularity polls with a couple of grains of salt.

He did kill one of the bills.. He has another one. Let me get it

quote:

As good as it felt, it’s important to understand that our victory over H.R. 621 was really only a skirmish in the broader war over America’s public lands. As I write this, two related bills are making their way through Washington D.C. One is H.R. 622, which was introduced by the same guy who brought us the defeated H.R. 621. This bill has the goal of eliminating the law enforcement functions of the National Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management. The second bill, H.J. Res. 44, which scuttles the recently revised BLM land management planning process, called Planning 2.0, was passed by the House of Representatives on February 7. It will go up for a Senate vote in a week or so.

quote:

In the case of H.R. 622, which will strip away the law enforcement capabilities of the U.S. Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management, we’re being told that it’s a cost-saving measure for the American taxpayer that will bring “local control” to citizens who live near federally managed public land. (I could spend a bunch of time explaining that these federal officers are local people, who come from local communities and send their kids to local schools and sacrifice on behalf of local citizens, but I don’t want to dwell on the obvious.) You could be excused for thinking that the genesis of this bill lies with a political action committee comprised of poachers and illegal marijuana growers, but instead it’s Congressman Chaffetz from Utah. He says that county sheriffs will be able to handle the several hundred million acres of jurisdiction that’s being dumped into their laps thanks to a system of “block grants” given to them by the same American taxpayers who are supposedly saving money by the eradication of existing law enforcement agencies.

H.R. 622 To terminate the law enforcement functions of the Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management and to provide block grants to States for the enforcement of Federal law on Federal land under the jurisdiction of these agencies, and for other purposes.

H.J.Res44 Disapproving the rule submitted by the Department of the Interior relating to Bureau of Land Management regulations that establish the procedures used to prepare, revise, or amend land use plans pursuant to the Federal Land Policy and Management Act of 1976.

I attended the public lands rally that went national in Helena last week. Thousands of public lands supporters crammed inside the capitol building atrium. It was epic.

He did. I watched a good portion of his town hall on Facebook Live last night and I'm not sure that bill ever even came up. Most people were challenging him on holding Trump more accountable and Obamacare repeal.

Logically, if over a thousand people in Utah despised Trump with fake signs and near pussy hats. Trump would not have won Utah. I am open to some of them being McMuffin establishment plants but I think they are mostly paid Soros' rent a mob-- shills. Don't you?

If they protested telling Chaffetz to GET TO WORK on all the issues Utah and many other States voted for Trump for: Such as, dismantling ObamaCare and Tax reform and so on- it would make more sense.

I get your avi's meaning now; occult/pizzagate. You must be so proud,

So you believe in pedo island and the occult bringing down DC; if it all were to come out? Why would Podesta have spirit cooking in his emails? Is spirit cooking-- with blood, breast milk and sperm the new fad amongst the establishment elites?
