You see what this everyone gets a trophy mentality brings. They don't know how to lose. Is it their fault or the previous generation who raised them?

This and social media but come to think about it, it's one in the same. - irresponsible, and often erroneous, educating.

And the MSM blasting it on the airways. Or as Priebus said last night on CNN, "stirring the pot" on dead issues to incite fear mongering.

This shite again?

The 60s and 70s gave us complaining hippies whp spit in soldiers faces

the 80s and 90s gave us goths because life was just so tough they needed to show the color of their soul

the 2000s has given us snowflakes who complain on social media and need safe spaces

From my old pal, C.S. Lewis. In 1942, no less. From "The Screwtape Letters"

He writes:

"My Dear Wormwood,

Be sure that the patient remains completely fixated on politics. Arguments, political gossip, and obsessing on the faults of people they have never met serves as an excellent distraction from advancing in personal virtue, character, and the things the patient can control. Make sure to keep the patient in a constant state of angst, frustration and general disdain towards the rest of the human race in order to avoid any kind of charity or inner peace from further developing. Ensure that the patient continues to believe that the problem is “out there” in the “broken system” rather than recognizing there is a problem with himself.

Keep up the good work,

Uncle Screwtape"

I think it has to do with a few things:

1. Social Media- a narcissists wet dream. Just because FB and Twitter exist doesn't mean you actually have something worth saying....but they don't let that stop them. Kids simply lack interpersonal skills we learned through years of trial & error.

2. Single parents/ two income parents: Its so dam expensive to live, even modestly, these days. Parents are working their arses off and want to give their kids a better life. In doing so they inadvertently rob their kids of the one thing that made them successful- ability to work hard and handle obstacles. I see a lot of this.

3. Culture: beat to death. Scoreless games, participation trophies. Treating winners and losers the same. The one thing that guarantees success in this country is hard work. These snowflakes don't know a thing about hard work. Had a manager of a young, hipster ATL tech company tell me they reprimand ee's who work on weekends. He was proud. I felt like a fossil staring at him in disbelief.

Bottom line- at age 25 they expect freedoms, autonomy, etc., most of us worked 20+ years to earn. When they don't get them they don't have the ability to overcome or relate. All they know how to do is bitch.

Young adults have always been stupid, but I think social media has allowed their angst to worsen to a degree.

They can filter their interactions and information into whatever echo chamber they desire. Even for online dating. So when real life punctures their bubble, they are totally confused and assume dissenting voices are a threat. How many people have already said people have blocked them on social media since Tuesday?

Then they just retreat back to their various devices to post hot takes and start "movements" so the rest of their bubble can tell them how right they are. They feel validated and emboldened and the sickness grows.

This is great and should be my 4th point. Add this to the lack of social skills I mention above, then add that to culture demanding that no one offend anyone, ever. And you end up with people who literally don't know how to exchange ideas with people who believe differently from them.

Baby Boomers raised them. We shouldn't be surprised.

For the most part, people are becoming parents at an older age - this trend really got going around 1980.

We also started having fewer kids per family.

Thus, they are appreciated and treasured more by their parents - both positive and negative consequences have resulted.

Social media and the 24 hour news cycle have amplified the behavior via visibility.

BTW I am all for participation trophies for everyone through about age 6 or 7 (1st/2nd grade) - something to put on a shelf and remind them of what is to be earned going forward in sports/life...

Liberal Baby Boomers who raised them and who also set these Progressive educational models in motion back in the late Sixties and Seventies.
