You can say the D-word to represent the down syndrome gene you have been searching for.

I am convinced you are less than 12. You just tried to totally switch positions with me as if nobody would notice

Maybe just maybe people on this board look at things on a case by case basis. In regards to police shootings there has been plenty of outrage in specific cases. There is plenty of desire on this board to see the legalization of pot. There is plenty of desire on this board to see an end to the intrusions into our privacy by our government.

You just choose to not see it because like life this board is not able to be summed up in big, blanket statements. Posters here rarely toe the line (but they always butcher that phrase) with one another. I'm so sorry that conflicting viewpoints offends your simple minded sensibilities.

If this board and it's regular posters represent first-rate intelligence, then we're all doomed

All I'm saying is that the majority of the board hates police overreach, until they kill a "thug". Then, the ends justify the means

And, the majority are full of "small gov't, libertarian views" unless we torture terrorists.

It's just strange.

Sorry but this confuses me.

Lets agree that the majority hates overreach by LE. Thats a good thing .

"Killing a thug". Is this a code word that means something else to you? Because it happens a lot when there are cops and thugs. Seems logical if tragic. Most here want good cops that stay within the law out protecting and rounding up and sometimes having to shoot bad guys.

It's always a challenge to remain intellectually agile.

I find that those who self identify as Democrats or "Liberals" are most close-minded and chained to ideology.

Of course that is the board code word for something else man.

It's a shame there are no stats to quantify "
a lot".

All I'm getting at is that when cop's overreach it is bad, but when we torture it isn't so bad, and that just seems off.

Maybe I'm painting with a broad brush when I should use a finer point.

Your premise is flawed. So is your logic. The cops did not overreach and we did not torture.

Maybe a MUCH finer point.

It's simple.

Cop overreach = bad. Killing a thug = meh

Torture = bad. Back room methods to gain information = meh

According to the autopsy in NY, he did.
And he broke protocol.

Nope. It was not a choke hold.

Got you now.

But your analogy would come off as less polyannaish if you were comparing US cops to torture of US citizens.

If the definition of torture includes pouring water on someone's face, making them stay up late and playing AC/DC loudly then we need a new word for true torture.

I greatly dislike the police, but I have no qualms with a shooting death if it is justified.

I hate the police state when it is directed towards American citizens. I do believe that torture is beneficial and support it's use against enemy combatants.

I do believe that there are chemicals which make physical torture obsolete though.

You don't believe in natural rights?

For a military that polices the world and does whatever it wants, as you say, they sure have sacrificed the lives of a lot of US soldiers over the years to preserve the lives of "enemy" civilians.

Sure, but define both "natural rights" and "freedoms" for me. They do not mean the same things.

guess it's just a symptom of the times, but, as far as general consensus goes:

We hate the police...unless they kill a "thug".

We hate our police state...unless they torture a "terrorist".

We love our freedoms...unless our gov't abuses freedoms of others.

It really bothers me that such self-perceived thinkers can hold such opposing views at the same time.

Your three examples make no sense. The second one is the only one where I can even sniff your intent.

What really bothers me is that some of you dope-smokers think the world can work like video games.

Life is complicated there are no universally absolute right/wrong situations taken out of the context of where/when/why they occurred.

Anyone who thinks so is foolish beyond belief - I think you resemble the 'self-perceived thinker' you are so bothered by.

One of the problems people have is this rigid idea that the world is black and white. It never is.
