Desertion does not automatically mean the death penalty.

Death penalty is just the max penalty.

Don't be that guy, millions of liberals have served our country quite honorably over the years and are the reason you have the freedom to type stupid shite.

He should be court-martialed. If convicted he should forfeit all pay and benefits, get busted down to buck private, serve another five years in the brig, and receive a dishonorable discharge. If he isn't convicted, he'll keep the money.

can't argue with that. I don't think he gets out of this though.

what I think it dumb is that he kept automatically gaining rank up to E-5. up to E-3 I get, but E-4 and above are leadership ranks which he proved he was not fit to hold.

And what bullshite is that my angry little friend?
You and your ilk are just as bad as the people you rail against. There have been literally millions of liberal minded soldiers who have served our country with distinction. They do not deserve to be belittled by petty ignorant trolls like yourself. If anyone should be going somewhere it's partisan fools that buy into either party's talking points. I am sorry if I offended you please continue. Der her libs stupid der her obamacare der her. Quit being part of the problem and open your eyes and become part of the solution.

That's just the way it is. I had a Wing Commander who was a LT when shot down in Vietnam, and came home a major. I don't have any problems with that practice.

No one has been executed for desertion since WWII. And from what I've read it was extremely rare even then.

Eddie Slovik is the only case since the Civil War.

Bergdahl is safe.

Heard on a news show yesterday that FDR was the last president to carry out the execution of a deserter.

Everyone is incredibly naive if they think Obama is going to negotiate the release of this guy, take the political heat for it; only to see him court martialed and sent up the road.
