If true, then could Landry please have the dignity to not run for AG re-election?

Louisiana already has too many dang elections. That’s why I was happy to see John Schroder resign from his State Rep seat when he decided to run for Treasurer. That way, in case he vacants (which it now looks like he will), the replacement is voted on and decided in the same election cycle.

Exactly Scalise will be next Speaker of the House

That pretty much Trumps every office except President. We don’t want Scalise going anywhere.

Wonder if Rep Mike Johnson would run for AG

He would be incredible. Mans a Constitutional Scholar.

Landry's coonass schtick would not play well outside of Acadiana and Houma

The rest of the state elected Landry in the same election cycle as JBE with the same margins.

And JBE didn't perform as strongly in the Acadiana and Houma areas as a coonass republican normally would, Landry would fricking clean it up there and get much of North Louisiana. A lot of Louisiana was light red and light blue in 2015. A good candidate without too much baggage and no divisive intra party fighting would make that dark red and get the light blue to light red.

Sure, Jeff Landry may have baggage but not the kind that lost Vitter the election.

But I still want someone else that can and will clear the field immediately and lock down the base as soon as possible in a way Vitter couldn't do and that's why I hope Jeff Landry doesn't run even though I would still vote for him if I have to.

Go try and defend taking more money out of people's wallets and having nothing to show for it as a democrat in this red state when you're not running against a weak republican.

That will be JBE's challenge as he will have to win over those same republicans that have had four years to cool their angry little heads down and reflect on their 2015 vote and ponder if it really was a mistake.

I know but LA conservatives should do everything they can to make him say no to running for Governor.

This state is broke as shite and we have a moron with no concept of money in the drivers seat and we need a sure thing to get rid of him.

Maness also struck a deal to stay out. He will wait to attempt to primary Cassidy.

Bill Cassidy is not where I want him to be on the ideological scale for a conservative in a deep red state and I still say that he's pretty much safe in 2020 unless he votes for something he shouldn't vote for like piggy mary did with ObamaCare.

The only people left who could even be possible would be maybe Boustany or Jindal, and neither of those seem even remotely possible.

Boustany does not have the charisma and political acumen to win a statewide race.

Jindal is in the political afterlife and he's never winning another election ever again for the rest of his life. His second term as Governor ruined his political career and made it possible for JBE to get a foot in the door.

What is Landry's "baggage"?

Why should they do that when all they have to do is make sure JBE can't get enough of those same republicans again?

All they have to do is get the base out against him and they win. It's simple as that.

I don't know if it's baggage as much as being completely in over his head

Oh, yeah, I think he's awful. I just wouldn't typically refer to that as "baggage" and was wondering if he was referencing something in particular, of which I wasn't aware.

Just that he sounds weird, may have done some sketchy things or whatever.

Me and king bob keeping asking people what Landry's baggage is or why he's corrupt and all we get is crickets and then they just go on hating him and down voting people who say he'll be the next Gov or anything good about him.

Actually you know this is the thing that drives me fricking crazy about Vitter and landry haters as they bash the frick out of them for being corrupt, sleazy or a hypocrite and yet a lot of them are big time trump supporters shilling for a man who you could make a case as being worse than them.

Buddy's melt down on election night at the podium was the lone bright spot of a shitty December night. I also remember him serenading for Piggy mary as well.

Buddy was a sleazy and crooked piece of shite and the ambulance chasers loved the frick out him. Good riddance to him.

I just don't think Landry is very smart and don't like the fact that he's never really held an actual job.

Vitter, on the other hand, was/is a really smart guy and would have made a decent governor. Even though I do think he's a sleazeball -- but not corrupt.

Wasn't he a sheriff's deputy once? That's not a job you can just sign up for willy nilly even in the middle of nowhere.

Yep.

He could've survived all the character assassination from Dardenne and Angelle if he had ran a good campaign, took nothing for granted and made sure JBE didn't sneak into the runoff uncontested.

But he didn't do that and he completely deserved and earned the 2015 loss and he only has himself to blame for that.

Scalise has no desire to be governor. He’s the house majority whip. If the freedom caucus deposes Ryan after the midterms, Scalise is likely next in line to be speaker of the house. That is a position with far more power, influence, and national presence than Governor of Louisiana.

Unless he desires to be president one day.
