The state Republicans need to find an actual candidate to run against JBE in 2019

some close to John Kennedy believe he'll run against JBE for governor
LINK /
Kennedy isn't the kind of Republican we need. He only changed to the Republican Party once the state went red and that was the only way he was going to get elected

I'm hearing Jeff Landry's name being thrown out as well

is he better than Kennedy? i just don't want a repeat of the last time when the Republicans couldn't come together for one candidate

I'm not really sure to be honest. I'm in the boat of a governor who will pass a constitutional convention. We have too many soft politicians in this state that are more worried about power than they are the betterment of the state in the long run.

They're both awful choices.
The Louisiana Republican Party is a mess.

Landry and Kennedy struck a deal. Kennedy will run for governor with Landry’s endorsement. If Kennedy wins, Landry will get his Senate seat.

Tons of GOP voters elected an actual democrat in JBE despite being warned that he was lying about being a blue dog instead of the actual tax and spend progressive he really is.
John Kennedy should be no problem for them.

Some of you guys are going to be surprised at JBE's popularity at election time.

If the LA GOP wants to make sure they have this in the bag and leave JBE no option for attack at all and clear the field of opportunist stragglers like Dardenne and Angelle to preserve conservative unity, they will do everything they can to recruit Steve Scalise for Governor and give him everything he wants and needs.
Steve Scalise is the perfect candidate as he's likable as hell, he has the perfect background story with the shooting, he would stop any other credible republican from making a bid and he has all the conservatism of David Vitter without the baggage that drives stupid bible thumpers crazy.

John Georges as an Independent
Garret Graves

Link? I doubt they've struck a deal this early. Kennedy hasn't even been in DC for a year

I think Kennedy or Graves may have a chance to beat JBE. Landry's coonass schtick would not play well outside of Acadiana and Houma

Scalise has no desire to be governor. He’s the house majority whip. If the freedom caucus deposes Ryan after the midterms, Scalise is likely next in line to be speaker of the house. That is a position with far more power, influence, and national presence than Governor of Louisiana.
Maness also struck a deal to stay out. He will wait to attempt to primary Cassidy. Nungesser should wait his turn at Lt. Gov. Strain is happy counting terms as Ag Commissioner until he can get his state retirement. Angelle took a job in the Trump Administration. Schroeder is at least 2-3 cycles away assuming he wins the treasurer runoff. Graves is also biding his time and making a lot of progress in Congress. If Scalise becomes speaker, Graves could be in line for whip or for maybe even a speakership in Ways and Means, Rules, or the kingmaker, Appropriations. Graves likely will run eventually, but he’s still young.
The only people left who could even be possible would be maybe Boustany or Jindal, and neither of those seem even remotely possible.

Because voters aren't paying attention right now after being politics'd out for three straight years of electioneering and he's getting kids gloves treatment from the state media that's so soft Jindal would've had an 80% approval rating when he left office with that kind of treatment.
Truth of the matter is that JBE has an even bigger uphill to climb next time as he's facing a few obstacles that wasn't there last time.
1.) He's going to have to defend his progressive tax and spend liberal record in a red state that has continued to elect republicans by landslide margins and he will be under the spotlight the entire campaign and won't be able to hide and sneak into the runoff like he did last time.
2.) There won't be opportunist pieces of shite like Dardenne and Angelle to destroy conservative unity and cut out the legs of the front runner and the GOP will be united around a single candidate next time.
If the GOP gets their base out, they win and JBE loses.
3.) If there is a single legit GOP candidate in this jungle primary, President Trump will be campaigning big time against JBE and that will do a lot to discourage petty feelings about the GOP front runner and get the base out against JBE.

Lol
You think people in this state care about taxes and spending
Louisiana is red only because of the Republican party's social offerings. There is nothing fiscally conservative about this state.

For a state that casted over 1 million votes for Trump, I would say you're stretching it here. JBE was an anti-Vitter vote. Nothing more, nothing less.

Kennedy can’t run for governor while being a Senator?
Wouldn’t Kennedy have to step down?
