The destruction of French statues

Unbelievable images of gorgeous works of art, ripped from their pedestals and turned into Nazi weapons. According to the article, over 17,000 statues were removed and destroyed throughout France.

And now those demanding removal call those opposed 'Nazis'. They have no knowledge or respect for history.

The French were badarse in World War 1 and before, but in World War 2 they just rolled over. Shows what happens when limp-wristed idiots run your country.

The statue removers in this country are no different than the Taliban, except that instead of Islam their ideology is social justice. They are just as fanatical and deem all those opposed to their views as blasphemers or apostates. SJW's are no different than religious fanatics imo.

Going into WWII, France had one of the best armies in the world. Their defensive strategy was wrong and that did them in.

Not to mention the Germans technology and tactics steamrolled everyone they came up against (not named the Russian winter) until relatively late in the war. They threw the BEF off the continent just as quickly as they defeated the French.

I'm so glad all of you get it. It's frustrating that so many people in my personal life (including many whom I'm closest to) don't care or actually agree with the statue removers.

In defense of the French, we're talking about a country who lost almost an entire generation of men fighting in the trenches of northern France a mere 20 years before the outbreak of World War II. They had no desire or stomach for war. World War I caused massive psychological damage that the French just never recovered from.

Yeah I agree. It's amazing that Great Britain mounted such a ferocious defense. Most leaders in Churchill's place (and by "most" I mean 99%) would have negotiated an agreement with Hitler and prayed that he stuck to it.
If Hitler had played his cards competently he'd have controlled all of Western and Central Europe with virtually no significant losses and then he could have regrouped for 18 months and taken out the UK or Russia or North Africa strategically and with overwhelming force.

I guess politics had at least a small part to do with it, but after WWI France was nearly destroyed and its military completely depleted. They had nowhere near the capabilities to push back against German invasion.

To refresh your opinion of French badassery, I give you:
Franco Prussian War, The French Mexican adventure and last but not the least the French collapse against the Germans in WWI.
The French have been badass twice in their history.
Once when led by a woman (Joan of Arc) and once when led by an Italian (Napoleon).

He would have done this anyways had Hirohito not bombed Pearl Harbor. America didn't want to enter the war and Japan attacking us gave the Allies a lifeline via American support.
Had that not happened I think Hitler would have defeated the UK within a year and turned his attention to Russia.
The US and Russia then both went on the offensive and gave Hitler what he never wanted...a war on two fronts.
In reality it's amazing that the US was able to be so effective at a 2 front war so far from each other. Strategically it should have been impossible to defeat the axis powers in the European theater and imperial Japan in the pacific theater. Because neither was a pushover...both had very powerful and capable militaries.

Go to the WW2 museum in New Orleans and you will see just how outgunned we were going into the war. Germany and Japan both had at least 20x more soldiers and weapons than we did.
The Soviet Union kept Germany at bay while we industrialized and got our shite together. How we were able to stave off Japan and then start winning the island hopping campaign is a downright miracle. Hearing the testimonies of the soldiers who fought in the Pacific, it's terrifying.
