FERGUSON, Mo. – There was an effort Thursday to get people to shop in Ferguson.

The St. Louis Tea Part is organizing a "buycott." The idea is to spend as much money as possible at small businesses that have been hurt by the turmoil in recent days.

Organizers hope it'll help keep those businesses open.

Two things:

1. Love this idea. I hope it does some good.
2. I googled this after hearing it on Rush. Virtually NO media coverage. The best is the local radio station blurb I quoted. Maybe it's too small to notice, but maybe national media just don't care to reflect on positive stories, particularly those that include the Tea Party.

This doesn't fit the media's narrative about the Tea Party.

If it paints a positive picture of the tea party, the media won't go near it.

Many of the destroyed or damaged businesses were owned by Asians. In all this manufactured black/white bullshite, the only actual victims are Asian-Americans. They should riot now. But they won't, instead they'll just keep their head down and work every single day to make their lives better for them and their families. You know, the American Dream

Friend of mine was videoing in some local businesses and trying to get them some grassroots advertising. Other friends went to Ferguson and had dinner there and then did some walking around and shopping.

Another friend of mine has been taking in food and water and another friend of mine volunteered counseling services for people.

Left to our own devices, some people are pretty good about doing the right thing and helping each other out.

At least they're trying to get in the good graces of minorities. #babysteps

They're just doing the right thing. But it figures a liberal would see race first.

Watch him claim he's not a liberal.

They should go to Ferguson Brewing Co. It's legit.

It's a really bad idea...they're just pouring gas on the fire to bring attention to themselves.

The best thing that could happen would be a lessening of attention to what is really a local issue.

1. Who is "Tea Party?" The consensus here is that the Tea Party is not a single organization.

2. your second link is the media, so not sure where "virtually no media coverage" comes from.

Fair enough. Looks like the St. Louis Tea Party.

Yes, because a four sentence statement on a local radio station's web page is roughly the equivalent of a CNN story. I guess CNN was too busy reporting on videos of unconfirmed gun fire.

They're older white types that are delusional who's candidates can't win in the general.

I'm for giving everyone an opportunity to become rich. Hard to do that when you incentivize laziness and irresponsibility.

And yet there is a single organization in St. Louis called the St. Louis Tea Party.

They are people who charge their time to live charge codes, not to overhead. They can't protest much during the weekday because they are at work.
