There is no rational explanation behind the early voting being that long. It should be a week tops with the opportunity to request mail in ballots.
really? Give me the amount of time needed to mail out the ballot and have it returned. It is as if you are completely without knowledge of reality. You do realize Oregon is completely poll less?

How about that THE PEOPLE want it and have shown that by the increase in early voting. Or is that a threat to democracy.

What is the justification for a week? What reason do you have to limit it to a week? Why did Mitt invest so heavily in early voting mobilization? You do realize historically early voting favors republicans? Hmm. Wonder why they would want to change things now.

The history of our country is a slow, inexorable march to universal participation. You can continue the fight against it, but like gay marriage, drug reform, etc. you are going to lose.

it's absurd as it is. far too much can happen in that time span to change a mind. also, it encourages irresponsibility
What exactly is too far? Change a mind? Lol Jesus could descend from the heavens and tell you Obama was innocent of everything regarding the IRS/Benghazi and a substantial portion of the board would still blame him.

More to the point, can you point to an example of this happening?

quote:

no it's not. if you believe it should be longer, then why not an even longer period? same argument you're making applies
Of course it is. I never argued it should be longer. Why can't it stay as it is? What real justification for the change other than politics.

which fiasco?
We are in a thread about early voting and Ohio. The whole 04 voting fiasco. From long lines to 90k votes not registered.

"We dodged a bullet this time, but the problems remain," said Heather K. Gerken, who teaches election law at Harvard. "We have problems with the machines, problems with the patchwork of regulations covering everything from recounts to provisional ballots, and problems with self-interested party officials deciding which votes count."

Why do you Think black people are too stupid to vote within 28 days? Why do you hate black people so much?

IMO, if you aren't in the military, you should have to show up on election day to vote.

This month long voting period is only a Democratic polt to get illegal votes.

You still haven't explained:

1) How having only 28 days is somehow an insurmountable obstacle to universal participation, so grave as to be a violation of fundamental constitutional rights; and

2) Why 35 days is sufficient to give everyone a fair opportunity to participate if they're so inclined.

The constitution clearly states that the election shall be on the same day throughtout the country. The reason is to ensure a fair election.

Article on how early voting is unconstitutional

I remember only having election day and a brief period for absentee voting. Having up to 50 days to vote opens the door for voter fraud.

I missed the part where I even mentioned race.

I don't think black people are too stupid, just too lazy to get there on time.

It is a sufficient amount of time for anyone to vote.

Why did Mitt invest so heavily in early voting mobilization?
Probably because he believed it would suppress voter turnout, which I don't believe would happen.

You do realize historically early voting favors republicans?
I don't care. The Republican Party is a terrible party.

If I'm going to be honest here, I truly do want less people to vote.

I have a problem with the large number of mentally inept individuals being led to both parties.

There should be some IQ-like requirement. It would reduce the numbers of voting Republicans and Democrats significantly.

Your evidence of this is?
Debates within 35 days of elections.
The possibility that a candidate could proclaim within 35 days of the election that a woman can shut down her reproductive system if she is really truly raped. Things change. 35 days is far too much time in advance.

It sounds like you'd favor a system where one could vote at any time after nomination. IOW a system producing votes prior to the contest.

So, you were being dishonest previously?

I don't have an issue with your position because you are honest. Just as I recognize that this is just politics. To suppress voters. It is that simple.

I always enjoy elitists. Unfortunately we have decided you don't meet the IQ requirements for our club or voting.

Yet you can't give a single example.

Please don't try and presume to know what I favor.

You seriously can't live in the real world.

Even the most ridiculous person understands the logistic problems with this, let alone the dollars needed to provide voting booths so as to allow a timely vote.

From someone who lives overseas and already voted, I get my ballot emailed to me and I can check the receipt status of it on the LA SOS site. So your argument here is BS

Honestly, link? I'd be interested to see how much voter turnout is increased by how much further we extend early voting.

Who knows. Maybe costs? You have to admit if you can't find time to vote in 28 days prior to the election, how would adding 1 week help? This argument can be said in reverse as well. At some point though you have to admit, enough days are enough days regardless of which political party it helps

Honestly please tell me how this is stopping people from voting.

Call it whatever you like. I think it would be quite interesting if you had to meet a certain level of intelligence to vote. You could potentially vote in one election and then fail to meet the cutoff in the next.

Although I may be wrong, I feel that those voting would be less easily led by politicians.

It would also motivate those who wished to vote. It would make it more valuable.

My opinions are useless though. No one cares what I think.
