I'd actually like to serve at least once.
It was probably the best civics lesson I've ever had in my life. I'd serve again in a heartbeat. It's an honor to be on a jury.

fastest route is to tell them either
a) your father was a policeman
b) you hate the police

My first jury duty experience a "bounty hunter" told the judge he believed all people were guilty until proven innocent. The asked him to step down from the jury box so he could learn a thing or two about the way our judicial system works. I was selected for a jury on Monday and done by Wednesday. That guy was still there on Wednesday and it's a pretty safe bet that he was probably bored to death.
I find the whole process very interesting. I enjoyed serving on the jury and was disappointed in not being selected the second time around.

Yikes. That's actually pretty messed up I'd those allegations are true. Rather poor taste.

Just tell them you listen to Rush.

I actually do wish I'd be on a jury, but I've only ever gotten called for civil and apparently attorneys don't like insurance agents.
I sat on a federal criminal case. It is actually interesting. They put me up in a decent hotel and reimbursed me mileage since I had to drive around 80 miles to get to the courthouse.

If I was a judge, that's how I'd do it. Unless you have concrete documentation of a hardship, you're sitting in my courtroom as long as possible.

He is a conservative who never listens to Rush. Go figure that?
BTW, there is a chance that the defense is going to ask for a delay of the trial. So I told him to keep his clubs in the car and we can play if they put it off.

Judge-dependent. And making up things to get excused pisses most of them off. At best, you'll be berated and you can bet that they'll hold you in the pool for as long as they can. At worst, they could possibly slap a contempt charge against you.
Not that I have a lot of respect for how they run things. True story- I was called for Jury duty a few years ago, in May. Seated on a panel, and they asked the usual questions (Name, occupation, does serving cause any hardship for you). The girl next to me claimed to be a single mom, working 2 waitress jobs to feed her kids, so if she didn't work- she didn't get paid. The judge lectured her on civic duty, it's a privilege, yadda yadda yadda. She didn't argue or say any more about it (I think she was being honest, but who knows). A few people down the line- this guy said of his occupation, "I am the head coach for a high-school football team."
"Oh, sir! We are SO sorry to have inconvenienced you! You are excused from jury duty, and I hope that this hasn't caused you too much difficulty."

I've been summoned for jury duty 3 times and picked every time - a drunk driving (not guilty), assault (mistrial) and a 4 week long first degree murder case (guilty). Quite the learning experience each time. Would not want to do it again (murder), but I learned so much from serving. Just my two cents.

It appears that Zach and his friend are a-okay with the lowest common denominators serving on juries.

Just tell them you post on the TigerDroppings Political Talk board.

Tell him to go ahead and do it. Without educated informed people on juries we end up with a lower quality jury. That doesn't help anyone and is part of the problem.
I was on a jury once in NYC for a minority who was charged with illegal possession of a handgun. I was sure that I was out when I told the defense attorney that I know about guns from hunting down south.
Turns out the defense attorney actually wanted me because my profile helped him with his defense.
Net / Net, I tried to get out by emphasizing to the lawyer why he shouldn't pick me, and it turns out that's what he wanted. You only look like a douche by trying to get out of it.
Also, if he's going in for Jury duty tomorrow, isn't he screwed for the entire day anyways?

People getting upset about others trying to get out of jury duty is ridiculous
Live your own fricking life and let others worry about what's best for them, the frick is wrong with you people
