A new study on children raised by same-sex couples further confirms the findings of previous, authoritative studies: the healthiest environment for a child is a home with a mother and a father. Those seeking to protect the "stygmatized minority" of same-sex parents, the study's author suggests, may be letting ideology trump biology and placing the desires of adults above the health of children.

The study, conducted by sociology professor D. Paul Sullins of the Catholic University of America, found that children raised by same-sex couples are far more likely to suffer depression than those raised by male-female parents and demonstrate a higher risk of suicidality, "imbalanced closeness," child abuse, and self-esteem and obesity problems.

Sullins' study, which used information from the nonpartisan National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health to track children raised by 20 same-sex couples (17 lesbian couples and 3 gay couples) over a period of 13 years (1995 to 2008), found that the problems with those raised in same-sex homes often began to surface in their twenties.

Wait so not raising a child as nature intended could harm them? Color me shocked.

Of course its not optimal

now compare a child raised in stable, same sex home to a child raised in a divorced home, or a child raised by a single parent, or a child raised in a foster home

So does institutional child molestation and cover-ups.

The traditional family unit was destroyed a long time ago... Unfortunately, I think it is too late to do anything about it and it did not start with the "gheys" being allowed to marry...

While I do not doubt that children raised in this environment have issues but do they have anymore issues than growing up in a single parent household or as a ward of the State? There are some fricked up hetero households out there as well...

Of course they don't.

I think the point is that children who grow up in traditional, stable families have the best chances at success..

A study of 20 kids? Lol. And ... Study was performed by a Catholic priest as well.

Sounds legit.

No one needs a study for this. People are either honest about it, or they aren't.

I predict that many will follow the links to the actual source article with a disclaimer from the publisher of the article citing concern over the paltry number of same-sex couples studied (hint: it was 20).

Wrong. wife a good woman that will bear good children and raise them right...do not spare the rod...do not put up with procrastination. laziness, backtalk, etc...love your woman......meaning don't fricking cheat on her, slap her around, or degrade her...be an fricking alpha that leads his family unit....and we can reverse this shite.

This should definitely be a disqualifier.

Throw out all that genetics research done by Mendel while you're at it.

And water is wet, gravity works, and death will come to us all at some point...

I support the traditional family unit and I believe it is very important to the health of a society. However, there are far more kids affected by divorce, shitty parenting, and dead beat dads than there are by same sex households...

I don't know any rational person that would argue against this

but using flawed studies such as this to prove that gays should not be able to raise a child (not saying you are, but some will) is utterly disingenuous considering all the other worse scenarios children are brought up in that people ignore

My intuition and observation tells me that gay men in particular could tend to be excellent parents in many cases. Probably having to do with nurturing, sensitivity to emotional life and the perks of being on average much higher income.
