Willful blindness is a global epidemic, so you're not alone on that premise.

Perhaps the human collective should take note on how the Battle of Aleppo was conducted by Assad and Putin. A city left in rubble in response to the radical Islam problem. Effective.

quote:

There is a solid chance that the devistation in Allepo is, in part, self inflicted by the rebels in an attempt to drum up sympathy and support from Western nations.

Possibly. Either way, the rebels and civilians have nothing, looking for a place to live, and lost the will to resist.

My grandfather would agree with this methodology, as he was thankful we did the same to the Germans before his unit fought their way across Europe to Berlin. Since then, our (United States) pusillanimous approach to WAR has been embarrassing globally because of some ridiculous moral fiber to WAR. If our nation has a moral weakness on how to conduct war, then stay out of other nation's business and avoid war. If we are going into WAR, then take the damn gloves off and start burying radical Islamist in pigs blood.

They don't. he is the preferred leader in all major demographics in Syria. which is not to say his government doesn't suck.

Just like everything in the Middle East, it's really complicated.

Assad isn't a good guy, he used low grade chemical weapons on his own people along with other serious atrocities.

The issue is that what happens if Assad is taken out? We have another Iraq and Afghanistan on our hands. ISIS would easily backfill quickly in Syria.

We need to stay the frick out.

Things aren't black and white.

I doubt we would call anyone specifically the good guys.

The good guy is the one who gave/sold weapons to the Camel frickers so that they could kill other Camel frickers.

Much deeper than anyone realizes. Iran wants to take over Syria. (the pipeline issue is just a distraction) Who does Iran hate the most?..Israel. Look at a map folks. Those Iranian missles are much closer when they are in Syria.

Those dudes(extreme radicals) really think the end of the world IS near.

Assad is a Bathist (same as Saddam) - Think mafia boss
Assad is aligned with Iran because the Iranians are Shia Muslims and are the enemy of Saudi Arabia (Sunni Captial of World)
Russia is aligned with the Iranians ( they both hate America)
Putin (world's most powerful mafia leader) has used Syria as a testing ground for new weaponry and wants a larger presence in Middle East and has killed thousands of civilians in the process of "assisting" Assad.
Russia is in the early stages of "blowback" the longer this thing goes. They already lost 1 ambassador and a plane full of civilians, not that Putin gives a shite about them.

nice work Tex

this plus the oil pipeline story

and... each tribe in the region has identity issues going on. Assad does not share power with the minority tribes. same as Libya was. same as Iraq was. same as Nigeria is. one largest tribe rules. the smaller tribes get nothing.

The best part about all this for me is that Syria, which usually funds huge forces aigned against Israel, is temporarily too busy to mess with Israel.

Iran-backed Assad and the Russians are doing what Trump boasted that he would...but would never do. "Bomb the hell out of Isis".

The Bastard Islamists HIDE BEHIND their own women and children. Anybody that attempts to take them out, has to kill the women and kids too. And that is exactly what is going down. As ugly as this is, it should stand as a bottom line message to anybody that entertains the possibility of an Islamist State.

The real answer is that Russia has a navy base in Syria, sells a lot of NG to Europe, and likes Assad. The Saudis and Bahrainis (who own us) want to build an NG pipeline through Iraq, Syria, and Turkey to supply Europe (thus totally screwing over the Russians). To do that, they first have to get rid of Assad and install a pro-US government in Syria. But unfortunately for the Bahrainis, Obama is an ineffectual fop, and Assad and Russia will win the war and stay in control.
I don't buy this theory. There's no reason the pipeline couldn't just go through Iraq and Turkey, bypassing Syria altogether. Turkey and Russia did not get along until about 6 months ago, and their relationship is still tenuous, IMO.

Furthermore, this war did not start over a pipeline. It started because peaceful protests were crushed with military force and violence by the Assad regime. Unfortunately, the civil war that erupted was co-opted by Islamists.

Now, thankfully, the war is coming to an end. My hope is that the Kurds maintain some semblance of autonomy and that ISIS is destroyed, and that Syria stabilizes as a secular country, even if it means Assad staying in power (frick Assad).
