This picture makes it pretty clear that CNN reached out to him but he did not answer. Once he realized CNN reached out to him he apologized on Reddit and then called them back.

Even if it happened exactly the way you say (and I believe the vast majority would say you are projecting), your position is that this is made clear in message in my first image?
You believe most people would read that and NOT assume that this was a blanket statement that the guy acted without any contact from CNN?

The pictures you have do not contradict one another like you are implying.
The statement says "The user apologized and deleted his account before even speaking with our reporter"
First tweet says "Apology came after CNN identified and reached out to him" Just because they identified him and reached out to him doesn't mean they actually talked to him. Have you never tried to contact someone and they don't answer your call or message and have to get back to you?
It's pretty clear that they reached out to him. He did not answer the call, email, or whatever. He realized his identity had been compromised so he issued an apology and asked CNN not to release his name because all of the racist shite he posted would embarrass himself and his family.
