We are going to spend $20.5 million dollars for a train to go from Baton Rouge to New Orleans? How many dozens of people do they plan on using this train?

Government never worries about the economics of a thing.

Don't worry it'll never get built. They will spend all that money doing infrastructure studies. That train will happen about the same time as a bridge to by-pass Baton Rouge will happen and they been talking about that for at least 10 years.

They need to use that money for the BR loop

By the time they are done pilfering that fund there will not be enough left for one of these;

Honest question: which destination has the best reasons to be against this?

Many delays and studies coming. Will turn out a billion dollars buttphuck by politicians and friends

The Government couldn’t build five miles of train track for 21 million dollars.
This money will go to the committee, to study the transportation needs of the community.

The only train im getting on would have to be leaving both of those cities and headed elsewhere.

It'll be nice for about five minutes before this:

Can you imagine being rail maintenance out there over the Atchafalaya? Wild.

$20.5 million dollars would not buy much for this project. Maybe it would pay for a study or two.

That’s a one room apartment in nyc.

No, we aren't. While "we" may spend $20.5M on studies, I would be incredibly surprised if a dime of that went to actually purchasing a single component of a new train.

Muh “equity” and “jobs.”
Having been involved in meetings regarding this rail line years ago, basically as an observer… New Orleans legislators and politicos think that the jobless rate among NOLA culture bearers is low because many don’t have vehicles and access to higher wage jobs in New Orleans like those that exist in the industrial corridor from NOLA to BR. If only they had the train to provide dependable, cost effective transportation, some of dem NOLA culture bearers might be able to get some a good paying plant jobs and contractor jobs etc… Never mind that also means they would have to care enough to apply for those jobs, pass a drug test and actually work. But I guess they’ll worry about that after the train line is completed.
