Should pharmaceutical companies be banned from advertising?

In light of recent Tucker interview, it seems they are using "advertising" to manipulate the news.

Oddly enough, the U.S. and New Zealand are the only countries permitting direct-to-consumer pharmaceutical advertising. Canada does with some limitations. The EU voted against DTCPA back in 2008.

I am generally against more regulation and government intervention, but it seems like this would be an appropriate place for it... unfortunately, I bet most politicians are also bought by pharma.

How can we get a common sense ban in place?

They ban cigarette adverts.

So why not pharma?

While we are up, might as well re-ban attorney adverts too.

Why? Do you not trust doctors? They still have to write a script.

I am not sure if this is sarcasm, so I am not sure how to respond.

How would I know which medications I should be asking my doctor about?

If you trust doctors, why do you need the direct to consumer advertising? Why should I have to ask my doctor if something that might cause anal leakage is right for me? My doctor should tell me what's right for me without asking.

Talked to a pharmacist lately? They get crap from Dr.’s every day at busy pharmacies. The FDA has been bought and paid for over 40 years now. The shelves are full of ineffective and downright dangerous “approved” drugs.

It's what allows Big Pharma to basically dictate the MSM narrative on any topics. Considering the dysfunctional and corrupt relationship between DC and Big Pharma, the result is obvious.

Lie to the sheep.

That has nothing to do with advertising to the public.

Were you asleep during COVID.
Were Drs allowed to prescribe known infection control drugs?
Fools on this board were brainwashed into believing the Drug Companies were innocent of wrong doing. Some still are carrying the phony messages perpetrated by Big Pharma.

Advertisements on TV/radio etc by pharmaceutical companies aren’t there to sell product.. they advertise to buy off media legally pumping ad revenue so those same media companies can’t bad mouth anything they make.

As an undergrad at LSU in ‘07, I wrote an op-Ed about DTC (direct to consumer) advertising in America that was published in the lsu medical journal.
My mom was on some sort of popular blood pressure pill, and after like a year on the market, it was found to cause osteoporosis.
Pissed me off, did some research, and wrote a letter to the advocate. Couldn’t believe other countries prohibited pharma companies from advertising, but it made sense. It was then picked up by LSU.

Sure it does. The FDA has approval authority over advertising pharmaceuticals. The FDA has to approve every ad on TV and fining authority over it.

Your doctor still has to prescribe it.

I think you confuse conservatism with anarchism or libertarianism. Conservatives aren’t anti-government. They are for limited government. The government has a role in our lives as laid out in the constitution.

If they did then we would have Fox News, cnn, msnbc or NewsMax

Those ads are like 60% of their total revenue because no real legit company wants to advertise on their bias channels

In other words, these ads is what funds the mainstream media
