Shocking: Bill DeBlasio hates private property

At least these days the progs feel so emboldened that they're no longer lying about this stuff
this is the face of the modern Democratic party
quote:
In 2013, you ran on reducing income inequality. Where has it been hardest to make progress? Wages, housing, schools?
quote:
What’s been hardest is the way our legal system is structured to favor private property. I think people all over this city, of every background, would like to have the city government be able to determine which building goes where, how high it will be, who gets to live in it, what the rent will be. I think there’s a socialistic impulse, which I hear every day, in every kind of community, that they would like things to be planned in accordance to their needs. And I would, too. Unfortunately, what stands in the way of that is hundreds of years of history that have elevated property rights and wealth to the point that that’s the reality that calls the tune on a lot of development.
I’ll give you an example. I was down one day on Varick Street, somewhere close to Canal, and there was a big sign out front of a new condo saying, “Units start at $2 million.” And that just drives people stark raving mad in this city, because that kind of development is clearly not for everyday people. It’s almost like it’s being flaunted. Look, if I had my druthers, the city government would determine every single plot of land, how development would proceed. And there would be very stringent requirements around income levels and rents. That’s a world I’d love to see, and I think what we have, in this city at least, are people who would love to have the New Deal back, on one level. They’d love to have a very, very powerful government, including a federal government, involved in directly addressing their day-to-day reality.

The Catholic church is the largest property owner in NYC. Tell them to give it up for the poors, Billy Boy.

The two things Marx said we have to destroy in order to accomplish a communist state are private property and religion.

Yeah I bet NYers would love to have a very strong federal government run by Donald Trump telling them what to do.
Methinks this little bit of chilling Marxism only applies to when Dems run the show.
Also: wow. Completely open communism. Jeez.

And the DNC wants to blame their election losses on things other than their own philosophy.

DeBlasio only believes that bullshite if he's in charge or someone who thinks like him.

pure naked marxism,
they believe that government elites know what is better for you than you do
where does their moral authority come from?

yeah these beliefs are difficult to unpack in terms of wht the people actually believe
people like BDB are panderers to their base and i imagine they don't fully believe this shite but say it to appeal to voters
also, he probably does believe in regulating private property, but he believes in regulating the private property of others. i imagine he feels like he's not "rich" and he's fully capable of managing his own private property
private property is literally the foundation of Western society and democratic governments. private property is what eroded the power of monarchy and created the merchant middle class. this gave people outside of the aristocracy power to influence government and to protect their other rights. it also created the concept of the free working class, who now had the ability to develop their lives and economic interests and realize the fruits of their labor (as opposed to subsistence-level living granted to them by the feudal lords who owned the property)
other foundational concepts like voting and free speech matter, but they lose most of their power and meaning if the population is not allowed to own their own property. you can enact change and influence government with property and without speech/voting, however if you have full speech/voting power it is difficult to truly change anything if you don't own anything.

Yeah, I imagine if you tried to nail him down on the details his ideas would fall apart a bit, or come across a little differently.

This is actual communism. Is it OK to punch a communist?

This kind of reminds me of a certain "New York Values" comment.

How is a guy like that mayor of NYC, which is the epicenter of capitalism in the world?

I think the exemplifies the separation between the mentality of the large population centers (Chicago, Los Angeles, NYC, etc) and the rest of the country. Thank God for the electoral college.

If you hadn't put a name to it, I would've thought that would've been said by one of those naive, utopia filled college students at some bullshite rally or protest they love to have. Not the mayor of New York City.
