Why would a defendant need “votes” to approve a witness being called?

Good question.

Trumps legal team has wide scope of who they can call for a Defense in the Senate during impeachment.

You are correct to be leery.

A majority of the Senate wants to remove Trump. This is not debatable.

That majority, 47 Dems and 4 Republicans can shut down anything Trump wants to do.

This is why McConnell says there aren't enough votes to dismiss.

It's also why McConnel is going to have to work with Schumer on the rules.

The wet dream of Republicans running some scorched Earth trial is a wet dream unfulfilled.

You won't hear from any Bidens, or Adam Schiff but you will hear from Bolton. Anyone trust that scumbag?

Based on what's known I see little chance Trump is removed.

It's what is not known that worries me.

There was no live witness testimony in Clinton's impeachment trial. None. The Senate tabled the motion on live witnesses and eventually only allowed taped depositions to be submitted.

Prove it.
So in a matter of hours both Graham and McConnell simply declare "There are not enough votes".
Did they hold a secret vote that no one knows about?

That's ridiculous. I'm assuming Trump's defense team can call their own witnesses, and if so, those two would be call votes be damned

Are you seriously going to tell me there aren't at least 4 Republicans that want to remove Trump for any reason?

You can't be that naive?

Trump likely has enough support to avoid conviction but he does not have enough support to control the rules of the trial.

His enemies do.

McConnell is going to have to work with Schumer on the rules because of Romney and 3 buddies.

Until 37 Senators come forward and commit to not removing Trump based on this sham I'm going to operate under the assumption that Trump is in grave danger.

Only links I can find are Graham saying after initial hearing of the "evidence," if there are 51 votes to end this thing that is what will be done. Not going to drag things out to trot out Bidens and Ciamerella. That's not a bad idea if your goal is to try and end circle of recriminations.

Won't matter. Turtle will probably move to dismiss.

Then it's over. Both sides got to try and embarrass Trump.

You do realize the rules already exist right? Any vote would be on substantive changes to the rules.

Unless you're insinuating that they'll vote to keep Trump's counsel from calling their own witnesses?

So end it and then call for the investigation.
Why not?

Today, 37 US Senators could sign a letter stating that they will never vote to remove this President based on these sham Articles the House wants to send over.

End run McConnell and the whole damn process. It would be over. Done. They could continue with the bullshite process but the outcome would be known. Adios. Done.

Until something like that happens, Trump is at some level of risk. I'll stay concerned.

They can run...but they can't hide. The truth is out there - and after Barr/Durham's comments since the Report hit - it's obvious that they are all in after the Deep State CRIMINAL corruption. The criminal corruption which Comey is pushing as "mistakes". Yeaahhh!

Barr and Durham are taking their time, and like Rush said...it's being timed for a very critical election. And they are building a watertight and irrefutable case, based on empirical FACTS which can not be spun...other that the willingly cognitively dissonant/confirmation biased.

Going to the mat. Dogfight. Just like with out Tigers. Win or lose.

Senator Graham SAYS a lot of things.

Senator Graham delivers almost never.

Actions speak louder than words, Graham is damn near a mute.
